Anaphora Resolution

2020
This chapter provides a theoretical background of anaphora and introduces the varieties of this pervasive linguistic phenomenon. Next, it defines the task of anaphora resolution and introduces it as a three-stage process: identification of anaphors, location of the candidates for antecedents, and the resolution algorithm.

Textual Entailment and anaphora resolution

2010 3rd International Conference on Advanced Computer Theory and Engineering(ICACTE), 2010
Textual entailment has been recently defined as a common solution for modeling language variability in different NLP tasks. Textual Entailment is formally defined as a relationship between a coherent text T and a language expression, the hypothesis H. T is said to entail H (T → H) if the meaning of H can be inferred from the meaning of T. An entailment

Multilingual Anaphora Resolution

Machine Translation, 1999
This paper presents a multilingual robust, knowledge-poor approach to resolving pronouns in technical manuals. This approach is a modification of the practical approach (Mitkov 1998a) and operates on texts pre-processed by a part-of-speech tagger. Input is checked against agreement and a number of antecedent indicators.

Anaphora resolution in ExtrAns

2003
The true power of anaphora resolution algorithms can only be gauged when embedded into specific Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. In this paper we report on the anaphora resolution module from ExtrAns, an answer extraction system. The anaphora resolution module is based on Lappin and Leass' original algorithm, which used McCord's Slot ...

Anaphora resolution in L1 Greek

2023
Abstract By means of an annotated corpus of 13,085 words, this paper investigates discourse-level anaphora in L1 Greek, exploring the anaphoric preferences of referring expressions in subject position and the effect of several factors on antecedent prominence.

Anaphora Resolution

2012
The article provides a theoretical background of anaphora and introduces the task of anaphora resolution. The importance of anaphora resolution in natural language parsing (NLP) is distinct, and early work and recent developments are outlined in this article. Finally, issues that need further attention are discussed.

Anaphora Resolution in Hindi Documents

2007 International Conference on Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Engineering, 2007
This paper presents anaphora resolution as a technique of semantic analysis of text documents written in Hindi language. The focus is on texts that mainly employ simple sentences, such as children's stories, short essays, etc. The technique works by locating sentences in the text that are semantically related through anaphors, analyzing their semantics

Anaphora resolution in biomedical literature

Proceedings of the ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and Biomedicine, 2012
While traditional work on anaphora resolution has focused on resolving anaphors in newspaper and newswire articles, the surge of interest in biomedical natural language processing in recent years has stimulated work on anaphora resolution in biomedical texts.

Evalita 2011: Anaphora Resolution Task

2013
This paper discusses the Anaphora Resolution task proposed as a track at the Evalita-2011 evaluation campaign for the Italian language. This task can be seen as a successor of the Evalita-2009 Local Entity Detection and Recognition (LEDR) track, expanding on the scope of addressed phenomena. The annotation guidelines have been designed to cover a large
