Anatomic Fat Depots and Coronary Plaque Among Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected and Uninfected Men in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Methods.  In a cross-sectional substudy of the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study, noncontrast cardiac computed tomography (CT) scanning for coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring was performed on all men, and, for men with normal renal function, coronary CT ...

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Anatomical Priors in Convolutional Networks for Unsupervised Biomedical Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We consider the problem of segmenting a biomedical image into anatomical regions of interest. We specifically address the frequent scenario where we have no paired training data that contains images and their manual segmentations. Instead, we employ unpaired segmentation images to build an anatomical prior. Critically these segmentations can be derived

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Low-Cost, High-Fidelity Ultrasound Phantom Gels for Regional Anesthesia Training Programs

open access: yesMedEdPORTAL, 2012
This module details the construction of low-cost, high-fidelity phantom gels that can be inexpensively produced and reused. These gels mimic the anatomic structures pertinent to performance of upper and lower extremity peripheral nerve blockade under ...

Development of a 3-Dimensional Middle Ear Model to Teach Anatomy and Endoscopic Ear Surgical Skills

open access: yesOTO Open, 2021
Mastery of ear anatomy and otologic surgical skills is challenging for trainees, and educational resources are limited. Advancements in 3-dimensional (3D) printing have enabled the construction of complex microscopic models.

Popliteus impingement after TKA may occur with well-sized prostheses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To determine the mechanisms and extents of popliteus impingements before and after TKA and to investigate the influence of implant sizing. The hypotheses were that (1) popliteus impingements after TKA may occur at both the tibia and the femur, and (2 ...

TRPM4 contributes to cell death in prostate cancer tumor spheroids, and to extravasation and metastasis in a zebrafish xenograft model system

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Transient receptor potential melastatin‐4 (TRPM4) is overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa). Knockout of TRPM4 resulted in reduced PCa tumor spheroid size and decreased PCa tumor spheroid outgrowth. In addition, lack of TRPM4 increased cell death in PCa tumor spheroids.
