Fine-Tuning TransMorph with Gradient Correlation for Anatomical Alignment

open access: yesCoRR
Unsupervised deep learning is a promising method in brain MRI registration to reduce the reliance on anatomical labels, while still achieving anatomically accurate transformations. For the Learn2Reg2024 LUMIR challenge, we propose fine-tuning of the pre-trained TransMorph model to improve the convergence stability as well as the deformation smoothness.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

The immediate post-operative radiograph is an unreliable measure of coronal plane alignment in total knee replacement.

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2014
Background - Restoration of a neutral mechanical axis is a primary goal of total knee replacement (TKR). A mechanical axis within three degrees of neutral has been correlated with improved implant longevity, function and patient satisfaction.

Alignment techniques in total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Joint Surgery and Research, 2023
Purpose: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) reduces knee pain to improve knee function for painful knee osteoarthritis and provides excellent long-term survivorship. However, approximately 20% of patients remain dissatisfied.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Enhancing total knee arthroplasty outcomes: the role of individualized femoral sagittal alignment in robotic-assisted surgery - A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Optimal sagittal alignment of the femoral prosthesis is critical to the success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). While robotic-assisted TKA can improve alignment accuracy, the efficacy of default femoral alignment versus individualized ...

Development and validation of a prediction model for knee joint line orientation after high tibial osteotomy

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2019
Background Maintenance of optimal knee joint line orientation (KJLO) is important after high tibial osteotomy (HTO). No tools, however, are currently available that could predict the value of postoperative KJLO before surgery. First, this study sought to

Restricted Kinematic Alignment, the Fundamentals, and Clinical Applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2021
Introduction: After a better understanding of normal knee anatomy and physiology, the Kinematic Alignment (KA) technique was introduced to improve clinical outcomes of total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Vestibular Patient Journey: Insights From Vestibular Disorders Association (VeDA) Registry

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Vestibular symptoms impose a high burden of disability. Understanding real‐world diagnostic and treatment pathways can identify care gaps and guide interventions. We aimed to characterize symptom profiles, diagnostic trends, provider involvement, and treatment patterns in vestibular disorders.

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.
