Microsphere‐Templated Conductive Syntactic Foams for Recyclable and Additively Manufactured Soft Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a microsphere‐templated strategy to fabricate reprocessable PEDOT:PSS syntactic foams with tunable porosity, stable conductivity, and 3D printability. In situ PEDOT:PSS coatings create a conductive network that maintains electrical performance at high void fractions.

Imaging plasticity and structure of cortical maps in cat and mouse visual cortex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The study reported in the first part of this thesis utilized optical imaging of intrinsic signals to visualize changes in orientation maps in cat visual cortex induced by pairing a visual stimulus with an intracortical electrical stimulation.

Learning to Discriminate Through Long-Term Changes of Dynamical Synaptic Transmission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Short-term synaptic plasticity is modulated by long-term synaptic changes. There is, however, no general agreement on the computational role of this interaction.

Cortical overexpression of neuronal calcium sensor-1 induces functional plasticity in spinal cord following unilateral pyramidal tract injury in rat.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2010
Following trauma of the adult brain or spinal cord the injured axons of central neurons fail to regenerate or if intact display only limited anatomical plasticity through sprouting.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Localized morphological brain differences between English-speaking Caucasians and Chinese-speaking Asians: new evidence of anatomical plasticity

open access: yes, 2003
Deformation field morphometry was applied to magnetic resonance images to detect differences in brain shape between English-speaking Caucasians and Chinese-speaking Asians.

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Cellular excitability and the regulation of functional neuronal identity: from gene expression to neuromodulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The intrinsic properties of a neuron determine the translation of synaptic input to axonal output. It is this input– output relationship that is the heart of all nervous system activity.

Engineering Strain‐Stiffening Granular Hydrogels for 3D‐Printed Tissue‐Mimicry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable strain‐stiffening double‐network granular hydrogel (SDGH) enables independent, region‐specific tuning of toe (EToe) and heel (EHeel) moduli through control of microgel packing and network composition. This platform replicates tissue‐like nonlinear mechanics and allows fabrication of high‐fidelity, multilayered aortic valves with ...

Response of Carex moorcroftii leaf anatomical structure to habitat aridification

open access: yesGuangxi Zhiwu
Leaves are the largest and more sensitive vegetative organs exposed to external environmental conditions. In order to investigate the effects of habitat aridification on the leaf anatomical structure of wetland plants, Carex moorcroftii leaf plots were ...
