Anatomic variations and stone formation
Current Opinion in Urology, 2018The pathophysiological mechanisms in kidney stone formation are insufficiently understood. In order to achieve a better understanding of the complexity of stone formation, studies evaluating anatomical variations in the renal papillae have been performed. This review intends to illuminate recent findings.

Pathologic Anatomic Variations in the Sesamoids
Foot & Ankle, 1981This paper reviews 26 patients who presented with disorders of one or both sesamoids of the foot. There is a high association between long-distance running and chondromalacia or stress fractures in these bones. Thirty-eight per cent of these patients had variations in the anatomy at this articulation, including asymmetry in sesamoid size, symmetrical ...

Anatomic variations of the midcarpal joint
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1990Two distinct anatomic variations in the human midcarpal joint have been identified. In type I the triquetrohamate joint is on a smooth oblique plane with the capitolunate joint. In type 2 the triquetrohamate joint is separated from the capitolunate joint by a concave transition facet on the hamate and lunate.

The Female Knee: Anatomic Variations
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2007Traditional knee implants have been designed "down the middle,"based on the combined average size and shape of male and female knee anatomy.Sex-based research in the field of orthopaedics has led to new understanding of the anatomic differences between the sexes and the associated implications for women undergoing total knee arthroplasty.

Anatomical variations of the intrinsic muscles of the thumb
The Anatomical Record, 1994AbstractThe observation of thirty dissections of intrinsic muscles of the thumb provides some information differing from earlier anatomical studies. The abductor pollicis brevis and the opponens pollicis have been divided into muscles having six or two fascicles (or bellies), respectively.

Anatomical variations of lumbosacral plexus
Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2009Deviations detected during spinal operations have motivated us to start research related to variations of lumbosacral plexus formation. Aim of this work was to find out deviations of its formation from ascension of particular roots from foramen invertebrale and foramina sacralia up to formation of terminal branches.

Anatomical variations of the extensor pollicis brevis
The Journal of Hand Surgery: Journal of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, 1986Sixteen arms in eight cadavers were dissected. The extensor pollicis brevis followed the description given in standard anatomy texts in only three out of the sixteen arms. Four out of the eight cadavers showed asymmetry of the extensor pollicis brevis between their two sides.
