Definition of ANCF Finite Elements

Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, 2015
Since the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) was introduced, a large number of fully parametrized and gradient deficient finite elements were developed. Some of the finite elements (FE) proposed do not fall into the ANCF category, and for this reason, this technical brief describes the general requirements for ANCF finite elements.

ANCF Consistent Rotation-Based Finite Element Formulation

Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, 2015
In this technical brief, a consistent rotation-based formulation is proposed using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) kinematic description. The proposed formulation defines a unique rotation field, employs one interpolation, captures shear deformations, does not suffer from the redundancy problem encountered when using large rotation ...

ANCF reference node for multibody system analysis

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2014
The objective of this short communication is to introduce the important concept of the absolute nodal coordinate formulation reference node (ANCF-RN), a concept that can be used effectively to develop new and complex multibody system (MBS) models. The ANCF-RN allows for defining constraints and joints using linear algebraic equations, can be used to ...

Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis and Friction Compensation of Tendon-Sheath Transmission System Based on ANCF

Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics
Tendon-driven continuum robots are widely used in medical and industrial applications due to their slender and nimble characteristics. It is helpful to control tendon-driven continuum robots more accurately to study the mechanism and laws of generating

A high-order composite plate element for mechanical behavior of multi-drive coupled dielectric elastomer actuator via ANCF

International Journal of Applied Mechanics
The mechanical model of thin composite structure for the multi-drive actuators in soft robots is difficult to be obtained because the coupling effect of large deformation and large rotation of the multiple dielectric elastomer (DE) driving plates and ...

Use of ANCF Finite Elements in MBS Textile Applications

Volume 6: 11th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control, 2015
The objective of this investigation is to present a new flexible multibody system (MBS) approach for modeling textile roll-drafting sets used in chemical textile industry. The proposed approach can be used in the analysis of textile materials which have un-common material properties best described by specialized continuum mechanics constitutive models,
