Microbial communities in a coastal cave: Cova des Pas de Vallgornera (Mallorca, Western Mediterranean)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2014
As a part of an ongoing project on the role of microbes in the biogeochemistry of Majorcan caves, the species diversity of microbial communities present in cave pools of anchialine waters in the Cova des Pas de Vallgornera (Mallorca, western ...

Amphicutis stygobita (Echinodermata, Ophiuroidea, Amphilepidida, Amphilepididae), a brooding brittle star from anchialine caves in The Bahamas: feeding, reproduction, morphology, paedomorphisms and troglomorphisms [PDF]

open access: yesSubterranean Biology
Amphicutis stygobita Pomory, Carpenter & Winter, 2011 was the world’s first known cave brittle star. It has been found only in two anchialine caves: Bernier Cave (type locality and current study area) and Lighthouse Cave on San Salvador Island ...

Morphology, Phylogeny, and Evolution of the Rarely Known Genus Admetella McIntosh, 1885 (Annelida, Polynoidae) with Recognition of Four New Species from Western Pacific Seamounts

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The polynoid genus Admetella constitutes a deep‐sea assemblage of polychaetes, notable for their large bodies adorned with antennal scales positioned dorsally to the bases of lateral antennae. Furthermore, the genus exhibits swimming proficiencies facilitated by elongated parapodia and flattened chaetae.

Global distribution of anchialine caves.

open access: yes, 2013
Epicontinental anchialine cave systems are indicated by dots and anchialine waters on isolated seamount islands by triangles. Remipedia show a disjunct global distribution pattern, with all known species restricted to epicontinental anchialine caves. The

Anchialine Cave Environments: a novel chemosynthetic ecosystem and its ecology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
It was long thought that dark, nutrient depleted environments, such as the deep sea and subterranean caves, were largely devoid of life and supported low-density assemblages of endemic fauna.

Xibalbanus cozumelensis, a new species of Remipedia (Crustacea) from Cozumel, Mexico, and a molecular phylogeny of Xibalbanus on the Yucatán Peninsula

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2017
A new species belonging to the crustacean class Remipedia is described from an anchialine cave system on the island of Cozumel (Mexico), and is illustrated and compared morphologically and molecularly (CO1 and 16S) with closely related taxa.

Records of epacteriscid copepods (Copepoda: Calanoida) from anchialine caves of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, with description of the male of Bofuriella spinosa Fosshagen and Iliffe, 2007

open access: yesNauplius
The calanoid copepod family Epacteriscidae is one of the most representative cave-dwelling copepods worldwide, especially in the Caribbean region. We provide new records of two epacteriscid copepods from anchialine habitats of the Yucatan Peninsula (YP);
