Seeds aren’t anchors [PDF]

open access: yesMemory & Cognition, 2001
Exposure to a few task-relevant numerical facts (seed facts) often improves subsequent numerical estimates. We performed two experiments to investigate the mechanism that produces these seeding effects. In Experiment 1, participants estimated national populations; in Experiment 2, they estimated between-city distances.

Failure Mechanisms and Parameters of Elastoplastic Deformations of Anchorage in a Damaged Concrete Base under Seismic Loading

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
The article addresses mechanisms of anchorage failure in a concrete base studied within the framework of physical experiments. The authors investigated the most frequently used types of anchors, such as the cast-in-place and post-installed ones.

Anchoring of proteins to lactic acid bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The anchoring of proteins to the cell surface of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) using genetic techniques is an exciting and emerging research area that holds great promise for a wide variety of biotechnological applications. This paper reviews five different

Anchor thighplasty [PDF]

open access: yesAesthetic Surgery Journal, 2004
In the anchor thighplasty technique, the medial thigh lift is extended posteriorly into the infragluteal crease. The advantage is that the posterior thigh is lifted and ptosis of the caudal buttock can be corrected. Patients with buttock ptosis and medial thigh skin laxity without lateral thigh redundancy are ideal candidates.

Cognitive biases in marketing communication: Influence of anchoring and message framing on consumers' perception and willingness to purchase [PDF]

open access: yesMarketing (Beograd. 1991), 2021
While in the theory of rational decision making, it is considered that people's choices remain consistent and predictable even in cases when same information is presented in different ways, in real situations consumers' decisions are affected by their ...

Anchoring, Information, and Fragility of Choice Experiments: An Application to Consumer Willingness to Pay for Rice with Improved Storage Management

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 2017
This study uses an experimental auction and a discrete choice experiment to determine consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) for rice with improved insect control and for rice stored using Integrated Pest Management and investigates potential ...

Microneedle Patterning of 3D Nonplanar Surfaces on Implantable Medical Devices Using Soft Lithography

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
Micropatterning is often used to engineer the surface properties of objects because it allows the enhancement or modification of specific functionalities without modification of the bulk material properties.

A Perspective on Consumers 3.0: They Are Not Better Decision-Makers Than Previous Generations

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
This perspective article builds upon the theory of local thinking in interpretation and prediction of consumer behavior in a contemporary world of information overload. It is shown that even informed and socially and environmentally responsible consumers

The Molecular Basis for Specificity at the Level of the Protein Kinase a Catalytic Subunit

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
Assembly of multi enzyme complexes at subcellular localizations by anchoring- and scaffolding proteins represents a pivotal mechanism for achieving spatiotemporal regulation of cellular signaling after hormone receptor targeting [for review, see (1)]. In
