Benchmarking speech biomarkers of Alzheimer's against cognitive and neural measures. [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract INTRODUCTION Digital speech biomarkers (DSBs) support the detection and monitoring of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Latinos. However, they have not been benchmarked against standard cognitive and neuroimaging measures, missing a critical validation milestone. METHODS Thirty‐three AD patients and 33 healthy controls completed verbal fluency tasks,

Physiology and Survival of Intertidal Calcifiers in Two Contrasting Upwelling Systems. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study evaluates the physiological responses and survival of two intertidal mollusk species, Chiton granosus and Scurria zebrina, across contrasting upwelling environments. We found that metabolic rates and survival differ between populations exposed to seasonal versus semi‐permanent upwelling.

Contextualizing Blood-Based Biomarkers for Dementia Globally. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neurochem
Blood‐based biomarkers are transforming how Alzheimer's disease can be detected and monitored, but their clinical meaning cannot be separated from the contexts in which they are used. This article argues that the value of these biomarkers depends on integrating biological signals with cognitive and functional assessment, life‐course exposures, social ...

Allostatic-interoceptive anticipation of social rejection

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2023
Anticipating social stress evokes strong reactions in the organism, including interoceptive modulations. However, evidence for this claim comes from behavioral studies, often with inconsistent results, and relates almost solely to the reactive and ...

Source space connectomics of neurodegeneration: One-metric approach does not fit all

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2023
Brain functional connectivity in dementia has been assessed with dissimilar EEG connectivity metrics and estimation procedures, thereby increasing results' heterogeneity. In this scenario, joint analyses integrating information from different metrics may

A robust numerical framework for the analysis of material failure of fibre reinforced soft tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this work, robustness and stability of continuum damage models applied to material failure in soft tissues are addressed. In the implicit damage models equipped with softening, the presence of negative eigenvalues in the tangent ...
