Cybersecurity for Android Applications: Permissions in Android 5 and 6

International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction, 2018
ABSTRACTAndroid 5 informs users of all permissions requested when downloading an app and gives users an all-or-nothing acceptance decision to make for the permissions. In contrast, Android 6 informs users of each permission upon first use of the downloaded app.

Offloading Android applications to the cloud without customizing Android

2012 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications Workshops, 2012
Spreading more than twice as fast as PCs, smartphones are quickly becoming the primary mean for Internet access. However, smartphones today are still constrained by limited computation resources such as CPU, memory and battery. In this paper, we present a framework that automatically offloads heavy back-end tasks of a regular standalone Android ...

On the automatic categorisation of android applications

2012 IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC), 2012
The presence of mobile devices has increased in our lives offering almost the same functionality as a personal computer. Android devices have appeared lately and, since then, the number of applications available for this operating system have increased exponentially.

An Android application for head tracking

Proceedings of the 31st Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 2016
This paper presents a head-tracking system based on an inertial sensor that sends rotation data to an Android application in charge of recording and visualizing data in real time. Data are sent via wireless channel using Bluetooth Low Energy communication and are processed to provide a realistic real-time 3D animation of the user head.

A Classifier of Malicious Android Applications

2013 International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security, 2013
Malware for smart phones is rapidly spreading out. This paper proposes a method for detecting malware based on three metrics, which evaluate: the occurrences of a specific subset of system calls, a weighted sum of a subset of permissions that the application required, and a set of combinations of permissions.

Decomposable Trust for Android Applications

2015 45th Annual IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks, 2015
Current operating system designs require applications (apps) to implicitly place trust in a large amount of code. Taking Android as an example, apps must trust both the kernel as well as privileged userspace services that consist of hundreds of thousands of lines of code.

Analysis of Android Applications' Permissions

2012 IEEE Sixth International Conference on Software Security and Reliability Companion, 2012
We developed an architecture that automatically searches for and downloads Android applications from the Android Market. Furthermore, we created a detailed mapping of Android application programming interface (API) calls to the required permission(s), if any, for each call.

A Type System for Android Applications

2016
The most common form of computers today is the hand held form and specially smart phones and tablets. The platform for the majority of smart phones is the Android operating system. Therefore analyzing and verifying the Android applications become an issue of extreme importance. However classical techniques of static analysis are not applicable directly

Static analysis of android applications

2014
Today's smartphones house private and confidential data ubiquitously. Mobile apps running on the devices can leak sensitive information by accident or intentionally. To understand application behaviors before running a program, we need to statically analyze it, tracking what data are accessed, where sensitive data ow, and what operations are performed ...
