ANDROMONOECY AND VARIATION IN PHENOTYPIC GENDER OF PASSIFLORA INCARNATA (PASSIFLORACEAE)

We studied the perennial vine Passiflora incarnata Linnaeus (Passifloraceae) in Alachua County, Florida, from May to August 1983 to determine the breeding system and investigate seasonal changes in phenotypic gender of individual plants. Passiflora incarnata is an obligate outcrosser, incapable of self‐fertilization.

Andromonoecy in Four Australian Species of Leptospermum

Leptospermum myrsinoides, L. juniperinum, L. laevigatum and L. lanigerum are recorded as being andromonoecious, with the proportion of total flowers that is functionally male averaging 36, 42, 48 and 14% respectively at Wilson's Promontory during the 1981-83 flowering seasons.

Stirlingia comprises seven shrub species endemic to Western Australia, which are unusual in the Proteaceae in that they have inflorescences with male and hermaphrodite flowers. In Stirlingia virtually all hermaphrodite flowers produce a fruit. However fertile fruit set is very variable within and between the species.

Abstract We studied floral biology and the role of flower visitors in fruit set of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.). Muskmelon produced Staminate (hereafter ‘S’) and Hermaphrodite (hereafter ‘H’) flowers with a ratio of 18:1. Flowers opened around 40 days after planting and flowering continued for another 40 days.

ANDROMONOECY IN ZIGADENUS PANICULATUS (LILIACEAE): SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL PATTERNS OF SEX ALLOCATION

I describe patterns of sex allocation and gamete packaging in the andromonoecious lily Zigadenus paniculatus. In this species, pistil length was continuously, but bimodally, distributed within plants, and smaller pistils contained fewer mature ovules.
