Origins Under the Blowtorch: Frequent Fire Shifts the Balance Between Sunda-Origin and Sahul-Origin Plant Species in a Tropical Savanna. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We examined the effect of fire frequency on the composition of vegetation of different biogeographic origins, to understand how frequently an ecosystem can be subject to fire but still retain its evolutionary diversity. There was dramatic structural and biogeographic change in less than 20 years from dry tropical woodlands into savannas, creating ...

Land tenure contributions to protected area growth under alternative conservation targets in the Australian monsoon tropics. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract As the global protected area (PA) network expands to meet international targets, it is important to assess whether traditional reliance on public land will suffice for projected PA growth or whether other tenures, such as Indigenous or pastoral lands, may increasingly contribute.

Grass andropogon (Andropogon gayanus) growth and gas exchanges under agricultural gypsum application

open access: yesCONTRIBUCIONES A LAS CIENCIAS SOCIALES, 2023
In the state of Tocantins, the native forage grass Andropogon gayanus is predominant in the diets of cattle production systems. However, the region faces adverse climatic and soil conditions. Surface application of agricultural gypsum can increase base saturation in both the surface and subsurface layers, reducing the toxic effects of Al3+. It exhibits

Goat performance on pure Andropogon gayanus pastures or associated with legumes

open access: yesTropical Animal Health and Production, 2020
The objective of this study was to evaluate the grazing of goats in a grass monoculture system and in intercropping systems of grass + legumes. A randomized block design was adopted, with the treatments arranged in a split-plots scheme. The plots consisted of three cropping systems: monoculture-Andropogon gayanus cv. Planaltina; mixture I-A. gayanus cv.

Woody and Herbaceous Species Diversity Respond Differently to Environmental Variables in Semiarid Areas in Ghana. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In the drylands of Ghana, the relative importance of various environmental drivers for plant species composition and diversity is still poorly understood and this affects the identification and implementation of appropriate management strategies.

BRS Sarandi: a new Andropogon gayanus cultivar for tropical pastures

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2021
Abstract: BRS Sarandi is adapted to low and medium fertility soils. Annual DMY is 11 t ha-1 and levels of CP and IVDMD are 8.7 and 56.5, respectively. The average daily weight gain is 0.7 kg head-1 day-1 and the weight gain per area reached 15 @ carcass ha-1 year-1 without supplementation except for mineral salt.

Degradabilidade in situ da matéria seca de forrageiras tropicais obtidas em diferentes épocas de corte In situ dry matter degradation of tropical forages harvested at different ages
