The essential differences in microbial and chemical components of musk of different qualities secreted by captive male forest musk deer (Moschus berezovskii) [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 15, Issue 6, Page 1783-1794, June 2022., 2022
Next‐generation sequencing and gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry were used to explore the essential differences between different quality of musk in microbial and chemical compositions. The results indicate that 14 taxa at the genus level and six compounds were identified to specifically distinguish DM and MM groups under the LEfSe analysis and OPLS‐

Biomarker Records of Environmental Shifts on the Labrador Shelf During the Holocene

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
Abstract The ultimate demise of the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) and the preceding and succeeding oceanographic changes along the western Labrador Sea offer insights critically important to improve climate predictions of expected future climate warming and further melting of the Greenland ice cap.

Holocene variability in sea‐ice conditions in the eastern Baffin Bay‐Labrador Sea – A north–south biomarker transect study

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 553-572, July 2022., 2022
Reconstructions of sea‐surface conditions during the Holocene were achieved using three sediment cores from northeastern Baffin Bay (GeoB19948‐3 and GeoB19927‐3) and the Labrador Sea (GeoB19905‐1) along a north–south transect based on sea‐ice IP25 and open‐water phytoplankton biomarkers (brassicasterol, dinosterol and HBI III).

Holocene Interactions Between Glacier Retreat, Sea Ice Formation, and Atlantic Water Advection at the Inner Northeast Greenland Continental Shelf

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 35, Issue 11, November 2020., 2020
Abstract During the past four decades significant decrease in Arctic sea ice and a dramatic ice mass loss of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS) has been coincident with global warming and an increase in atmospheric CO2. In Northeast Greenland significant mass loss from the outlet glaciers Nioghalvfjerdsbræ (79NG) and Zachariæ Isstrøm (ZI) and intensive ...

Biomarker Distributions in (Sub)‐Arctic Surface Sediments and Their Potential for Sea Ice Reconstructions

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 21, Issue 10, October 2020., 2020
Abstract To evaluate the present sea ice changes in a longer‐term perspective, the knowledge of sea ice variability on preindustrial and geological time scales is essential. For the interpretation of proxy reconstructions it is necessary to understand the recent signals of different sea ice proxies from various regions.

A Hormonal Signaling Pathway Influencing C. elegans Metabolism, Reproductive Development, and Life Span [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
During C. elegans development, animals must choose between reproductive growth or dauer diapause in response to sensory cues. Insulin/IGF-I and TGF-β signaling converge on the orphan nuclear receptor daf-12 to mediate this choice. Here we show that daf-9

Detecting the misuse of 7‐oxo‐DHEA by means of carbon isotope ratio mass spectrometry in doping control analysis

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 34, Issue 12, 30 June 2020., 2020
Rationale The misuse of 7‐oxo‐DHEA (3β‐hydroxyandrost‐5‐ene‐7,17‐dione) is prohibited according to the World Anti‐Doping Agency (WADA) code. Nevertheless, it is easily available as a dietary supplement and from black market sources. In two recent doping control samples, significant amounts of its main metabolite 7β‐OH‐DHEA were identified ...

Assessment of the Potential Biological Activity of Low Molecular Weight Metabolites of Freshwater Macrophytes with QSAR

open access: yesScientifica, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The paper focuses on the assessment of the spectrum of biological activities (antineoplastic, anti‐inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial) with PASS (Prediction of Activity Spectra for Substances) for the major components of three macrophytes widespread in the Holarctic species of freshwater, emergent macrophyte with floating leaves, Nuphar lutea (

The Influence of Standardized Valeriana officinalis Extract on the CYP3A1 Gene Expression by Nuclear Receptors in In Vivo Model

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Valeriana officinalis is one of the most popular medicinal plants commonly used as a sedative and sleep aid. It is suggested that its pharmacologically active compounds derived from the root may modulate the CYP3A4 gene expression by activation of pregnane X receptor (PXR) or constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) and lead to pharmacokinetic herb‐drug ...
