Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1985
In summary, many surgical procedures may be safely and comfortably performed utilizing regional anesthesia if only a few guidelines are followed as to choice and usage of local anesthetics. The success of a regional block will always be dependent upon correct needle placement by an experienced physician with good technical skills.

Phototriggered Local Anesthesia
Nano Letters, 2015We report a phototriggerable formulation enabling in vivo repeated and on-demand anesthesia with minimal toxicity. Gold nanorods (GNRs) that can convert near-infrared (NIR) light into heat were attached to liposomes (Lip-GNRs), enabling light-triggered phase transition of their lipid bilayers with a consequent release of payload.

Local anesthetics have the unique ability to produce complete blockade of sensory nerve fibers and prevent or pre-empt the development of secondary (central) sensitization to pain. For this reason, local and regional anesthetic techniques are often used with opioids, alpha 2-receptor agonists, dissociatives, and anti-inflammatory drugs as part of a ...

A young girl, in preparation for a minor anal operation, was given an injection of 15 cc. of a 2 per cent solution of procaine. Within three minutes clonic convulsions of her whole body began. She was in our clinic before students, and I told them that the convulsions would last about five seconds and then she would return to normal.

Local Anesthesia and Regional Anesthesia
1993The use of local and regional anesthesia in surgical practice is considered to be safe, certainly much safer than the use of general anesthesia. For example, a 1955 survey of local anesthesia used for dental procedures found only two deaths in an estimated 90 million cases over a span of 10 years [1]. Such a statistic can lull one into an inappropriate
