The Relationship between the Phases of the Menstrual Cycle on the Incidence and Severity of Headache after Spinal Anesthesia

open access: yesThe Surgery Journal, 2019
Introduction Headache after spinal anesthesia is a common complication, which is caused after dural puncture due to discharge of cerebrospinal fluid and reduction in the volume and pressure.

THE DANGER OF SPINAL ANESTHESIA. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1900
Shortly after the introduction of cocain as a local anesthetic, Dr. J. Leonard Corning, of New York, demonstrated that it was possible, under its influence, to remove large tumors and perform amputations. Continuing his researches, he developed, in 1885, a method of injecting the drug into the vertebral canal between the spinous processes where it ...

Dexime: A Selectively Enzyme‐Degradable Hydrogel for Protein Therapeutic Release

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A dextrin‐oxime hydrogel (dexime) is produced using ketone or aldehyde modified dextrin and tetra‐oxyamine modified poly(ethylene glycol). The rheological and mechanical properties of dexime are tunable. Dexime is injectable, cytocompatible, hydrolytically stable, and selectively degradable by α‐amylase.

Piezo2 Mediates a Vicious Cycle of “Mechanical Homeostasis Imbalance—Inflammation” in Sensory Nerves and the Cartilage Endplate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a lumbar spine instability model, dorsal root ganglion cells mediate the perception of relevant mechanical stresses through Piezo2 and subsequently release CGRP. CGRP activates the NF‐κB signaling pathway in cartilage endplate cells through the receptor RAMP1.

Fine tuning in neuraxial subarachnoid anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Medical Practice, 2016
The spinal anesthesia, a category of neuraxial anesthesia, is commenced in the lumbar spine, where the local anesthetic (LA) is injected into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to anesthetize the spinal nerves. This technique is most frequently used for analgesia

Electroacupuncture Improves the Learning and Memory by Modulating Hippocampal Glucose Metabolism through IGF1/IGF1R Signaling in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electroacupuncture (EA) ameliorates learning and memory function in 5×FAD mice by regulating the brain glucose metabolic network. This neuroprotective effect is closely related to enhancing neuronal energy utilization via the IGF1/IGF1R signaling pathway.

Spinal Anesthesia Using Hyperbaric 0.75% Versus Hyperbaric 1% Bupivacaine for Cesarean Section

open access: yes, 1998
Although 0.75% hyperbaric bupivacaine is commonly administered to provide spinal anesthesia for cesarean section in the United States, in some countries, only the 1% hyperbaric solution of spinal bupivacaine is available.

Tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy under spinal versus general anesthesia

open access: yesUrology Research and Practice, 2019
Objective: Today, many surgical procedures can be performed under spinal anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. In this study, we compared the outcome of tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy performed under spinal anesthesia and general anesthesia.
