Annexin A3 Represses Endothelial Permeability and Inflammation During Sepsis via Actin Cytoskeleton Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Annexin A3 (ANXA3) plays an endogenous protective role in endothelial dysfunction in sepsis by stabilizing the actin cytoskeleton, modulating cell permeability, and inhibiting pATF2/CD62E inflammatory signaling. Abstract Increased endothelial permeability and a dysregulated inflammatory response play key roles in organ damage in sepsis.

Engineered Hydrogels for Organoid Models of Human Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by lipid accumulation and extracellular matrix stiffening. An in vitro NAFLD model is developed using engineered hydrogels (G′ ≈ 1–6 kPa) and iPSC‐derived hepatic organoids. It is demonstrated that higher stiffness can increase lipid droplet accumulation, fibrosis, and metabolic dysregulation ...

Early phase pharmacokinetics but not pharmacodynamics are influenced by propofol infusion rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Conventional compartmental pharmacokinetic models wrongly assume instantaneous drug mixing in the central compartment, resulting in a flawed prediction of drug disposition for the first minutes, and the flaw affects pharmacodynamic modeling ...

Photo‐Biomodulation of the Hippocampus Using Near‐Infrared Laser to Enhance Cognitive Function in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Here a transcranial photo‐biomodulation approach is developed using near‐infrared (NIR) laser on hippocampus of mice, revealing significant improvements in learning and memory ability of mice under normal and disease conditions. The improvement results from the high‐density cell‐induced NIR local energy deposition, neuronal activation, and axonogenesis

Mechanisms of Volatile Anesthetic-Induced Myocardial Protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Volatile anesthetics protect myocardium against reversible and irreversible ischemic injury. Experimental evidence from several in vitro and in vivo animal models demonstrates that volatile agents enhance the recovery of stunned myocardium and reduce the

Flavonifractor Plautii or Its Metabolite Desaminotyrosine as Prophylactic Agents for Alleviating Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome is a potential target for treating cardiovascular disease. It is found that prophylactic administration of Flavonifractor plautii or its metabolite desaminotyrosine (DAT) exerts pleiotropic cardioprotective effects via promoting cardiomyocyte survival and attenuating cardiac inflammation against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R ...

Pia Mater‐Penetrable Lipopolymer Nanoparticles for Gliocyte‐Targeted IL‐10 mRNA Therapy Alleviate Paclitaxel‐Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The P6CIT lipopolymer demonstrates superior transfection efficacy in the spinal cord and DRG, as well as enhanced penetration of the pia mater compared to the MC3 ionizable lipid. Intrathecal delivery of P6CIT LPNPs enables effective transfection in the gliocytes in the spinal cord and DRG.

Operating room first case start times: a metric to assess systems-based practice milestones? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Resident competence in peri-operative care is a reflection on education and cost-efficiency. Inspecting pre-existing operating room metrics for performance outliers may be a potential solution for assessing competence. Statistical correlation
