AbstractObjective:We report a case of a remaining hemi-thyroid following laryngectomy, which was misinterpreted as a pseudoaneurysm. Methods:Case report and comment on this understandable error which is easily avoidable. Results:A 59-year-old man had undergone salvage laryngectomy for recurrent squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx, which had previously ...

An analysis is made of 16 false aneurysms occurring after arterial grafting in 14 patients. Eight aneurysms were in the abdomen; six were at anastomotic sites on femoral arteries. One was in the popliteal artery and one at an arteriotomy site in a femoral graft. None was due to infection. Eleven seemed due to weakness of the arterial wall.

Vascular, 2007
This retrospective study covers the period from 1991 to 2002, during which 3,623 patients were operated on because of aneurysmal or occlusive disease of aortoiliac and femoropopliteal segments. Among them, 87 patients (2.4%) developed a false anastomotic aneurysm in the 12-year follow-up period and were treated operatively.

False aneurysm complicating carotid endarterectomy
Neurosurgery, 1986We present two cases of false aneurysm after carotid endarterectomy with primary arteriotomy closure. In both cases, infection appeared to be the precipitating cause. Both lesions were repaired with a saphenous vein patch graft, but infection in one patient persisted, and recurrence of a false aneurysm required ligation of the common carotid artery ...

Treatment of Iatrogenic False Aneurysms
Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2003The incidence of iatrogenic false aneurysms has risen exponentially in recent years. Although this growth in peripheral vascular injuries likely is multifactorial in origin, the increasing complexity of percutaneous techniques combined with public demand for minimally invasive procedures has probably contributed.
