Rodent Aβ Modulates the Solubility and Distribution of Amyloid Deposits in Transgenic Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The amino acid sequence of amyloid precursor protein (APP) is highly conserved, and age-related Abeta aggregates have been described in a variety of vertebrate animals, with the notable exception of mice and rats.

Liraglutide improves peripheral perfusion and markers of angiogenesis and inflammation in people with type 2 diabetes and peripheral artery disease: An 18‐month follow‐up of a randomized clinical trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims In a six‐month randomized clinical trial, improved peripheral perfusion has been shown with liraglutide, associated with favourable vascular effects in people with type 2 diabetes and peripheral artery disease (PAD). We aimed to evaluate the durability of these benefits and to elucidate some mechanisms underlying liraglutide's effect over

Circulating amyloid beta 1‐40 peptide as an associate of renal function decline

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 55, Issue 5, May 2025.
In this cohort study, we explored the association between amyloid‐beta 1‐40 (Aβ1‐40) plasma levels and kidney function and its clinical implications in 811 consecutive individuals with variable cardiovascular risk. Increased Aβ1‐40 was bidirectionally and consistently associated with worse kidney function at two different time points.

Probable cerebral amyloid angiopathy

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2010
Background: A 55-year-old man presented with short-term memory loss, headache, diplopia and visual hallucinations. Higher mental functions were normal. The patient had a previous medical history of seizures, and was under longstanding anti-epileptic treatment. Recently he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Microbial amyloids in neurodegenerative amyloid diseases

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 6, Page 1265-1281, March 2025.
Numerous microbes, including those indigenous to the human microbiome, produce amyloidogenic proteins. These proteins have critical functions in bacterial physiology and their lifestyles. Emerging evidence indicates that microbial amyloids also interact directly or indirectly with host‐derived amyloid proteins, such as those which underlie Parkinson's ...

Unprecedented Combination of Rare Degenerative Pathologies in an Octogenarian Ex‐Football Player

open access: yesNeuropathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 79‐year‐old former professional football player presented with language deficits and cognitive changes. A year later, he had difficulty completing sentences, and 3 years after onset, was reduced to one‐word answers. He developed severe apathy and agitation, and became more impulsive.

Demystifying “Hyaline Angiopathy” of Pulse Granuloma in Oral and Extraoral Surgical Pathology

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Pulse granuloma (PG), or giant cell hyaline angiopathy, is an immune‐mediated reaction often following the implantation of plant‐derived food particles. PGs are primarily found in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract and may represent a histopathological pitfall, being mistaken for other granulomatous conditions

The causative role of amyloidosis in the cardiac complications of Alzheimer's disease: a comprehensive systematic review

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic illustration of the bidirectional causative link between cerebral amyloid‐beta (Aβ) angiopathy and cardiovascular disease in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Common cardiovascular risk factors like microvascular thrombosis, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, hypertension and atherosclerosis lead to cerebral hypoperfusion and ...

Validating the Accuracy of Parkinson's Disease Clinical Diagnosis: A UK Brain Bank Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 97, Issue 6, Page 1110-1121, June 2025.
Objective Despite diagnostic criteria refinements, Parkinson's disease (PD) clinical diagnosis still suffers from a not satisfying accuracy, with the post‐mortem examination as the gold standard for diagnosis. Seminal clinicopathological series highlighted that a relevant number of patients alive‐diagnosed with idiopathic PD have an alternative post ...
