Environmental heterogeneity and its influence on fern diversity in a low-altitude mountain forest in central Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Environmental heterogeneity plays a crucial role in shaping the distribution and composition of natural vegetation, including understory ferns. This study investigated the influence of environmental variation on understory fern communities within a one ...

A metabarcoding protocol targeting two DNA regions to analyze root-associated fungal communities in ferns and lycophytes. [PDF]

open access: yesAppl Plant Sci, 2023
Abstract Premise Detailed studies of the fungi associated with lycophytes and ferns provide crucial insights into the early evolution of land plants. However, most investigations to date have assessed fern–fungus interactions based only on visual root inspection. In the present research, we establish and evaluate a metabarcoding protocol to analyze the

Rediscovery of Craspedosorus and Plastome-Based Evidence for Its Synonymy With Leptogramma (Thelypteridaceae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Habitat and morphology of Craspedosorus sinensis. ABSTRACT Yunnan Province is the richest region in China for lycophytes and ferns. Its unique geological history and climatic conditions have nurtured numerous endemic and rare plant species. Craspedosorus, a monotypic genus of Thelypteridaceae containing only Craspedosorus sinensis, is a genus endemic ...

High-speed video and plant ultrastructure define mechanisms of gametophyte dispersal. [PDF]

open access: yesAppl Plant Sci, 2022
Abstract Dispersal of gametophytes is critical for land plant survivorship and reproduction. It defines potential colonization and geographical distribution as well as genetic mixing and evolution. C. T. Ingold's classic works on Spore Discharge in Land Plants and Spore Liberation review mechanisms for spore release and dispersal based on real‐time ...

Non‐seed plants are emerging gene sources for agriculture and insect control proteins

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 116, Issue 1, Page 23-37, October 2023., 2023
SUMMARY The non‐seed plants (e.g., charophyte algae, bryophytes, and ferns) have multiple human uses, but their contributions to agriculture and research have lagged behind seed plants. While sharing broadly conserved biology with seed plants and the major crops, non‐seed plants sometimes possess alternative molecular and physiological adaptations ...

Ein künstlicher in vitro‐Stoffwechsel zu Angiopterlacton B nach dem Vorbild traditioneller Retrosynthese**

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 135, Issue 23, June 5, 2023., 2023

An Artificial In Vitro Metabolism to Angiopterlactone B Inspired by Traditional Retrosynthesis**

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 62, Issue 23, June 5, 2023., 2023
Biocatalytic cascades, combining the selectivity of biological systems with the elegance of chemical synthesis, offer an exceptional opportunity for the preparation of complex molecular structures. By integrating native and abiotic enzyme modules in a metabolism‐like network, a five‐enzyme cascade coupled with a carbonate‐induced dimerization step ...

Revision of the Barremian fern Coniopteris laciniata from Las Hoyas and El Montsec (Spain): Highlighting its importance in the evolution of vegetation during the Early Cretaceous

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 72, Issue 3, Page 625-637, June 2023., 2023
Abstract The species Coniopteris laciniata and Sphenopteris wonnacottii are heterophyllous ferns recovered from two Spanish Barremian localities, Las Hoyas and El Montsec respectively. The similarities between these species, observed in a study of a total of 66 hand specimens from both localities, indicate that they are conspecific.
