A contribution to the vascular and bryophyte flora of the upper Neretva and Zalomka River valleys (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

open access: yesNatura Sloveniae
Between 1st and 6th of June 2023 we conducted floristic research on several sites in the upper Neretva River valley and the Zalomka River at Nevesinjsko Polje.

and light stomatal responses of angiosperms compared to ferns

open access: yes, 2019
Stomatal responses to environmental signals differ substantially between ferns and angiosperms. However, the mechanisms that lead to such different responses remain unclear.

A step into the shadows: Evolutionary shifts in fruit structure and dispersal strategies in Asian mycoheterotrophic Ericaceae

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
This study examines how the fruits of non‐photosynthetic forest plants in the Monotropoideae (Ericaceae) have evolved into the diversity observed today. By analyzing four Asian species, we identified a shift from dry, dehiscent fruits that release seeds into the air to fleshy, berry‐like fruits adapted for animal dispersal.

Nesting of social wasps (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) in a riparianforestofriodas Mortes in southeasternBrazil

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2014
The survival of social wasp species depends on the success in founding new nests. These species can use plant species with different specific characteristics for nesting, with nest architecture varying according to the habits of those plant species.

The shared benefits of fallen fruits: A novel mechanism stabilizing a nursery pollination mutualism between Sambucus and kateretid beetles

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Understanding how cooperative interactions remain stable matters for biodiversity because many plants rely on specialist insects that can also impose reproductive costs. We studied the interaction between Sambucus sieboldiana and seed‐consuming Heterhelus beetles through detailed field observations and pollination experiments.

The pistil as a traffic light: Yellow‐to‐red color change likely influences pollinator visitation patterns in Saxifraga fortunei (Saxifragaceae)

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Flowers can communicate reproductive status to pollinators through visual cues. In Saxifraga fortunei, pistils often changed from yellow to red after pollination, and hoverflies and honeybees preferentially visited flowers with yellow pistils. This pattern suggests that a post‐pollination color shift confined to the pistil can reduce revisits to ...

Bridging micro and macroevolution: insights from chromosomal dynamics in plants

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Understanding the relationship between macro- and microevolutionary processes and their delimitation remains a challenge. This review focuses on the role of chromosomal rearrangements in plant population differentiation and lineage diversification ...

Schmeissneria: A missing link to angiosperms?

open access: yes, 2007
Background The origin of angiosperms has been under debate since the time of Darwin. While there has been much speculation in past decades about pre-Cretaceous angiosperms, including Archaefructus, these reports are controversial.
