Angle-of-arrival fluctuations in a turbulent atmosphere

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Atmospheric turbulence causes fluctuations in the angle-of-arrival (AOA) of sound waves. These fluctuations adversely affect the performance of sensor arrays used for source detection, ranging, and recognition. This article examines, from a theoretical perspective, the variance of the AOA fluctuations measured with two microphones.

A New CLEAN Algorithm for Angle of Arrival Denoising

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2009
In a previous work, a novel technique for angle of arrival (AOA) measurement was proposed. This technique consists of sweeping the angular domain with one antenna, step by step, such that at each measurement step the received signal voltage at the rotating antenna (sensor) is measured.

A Method of Determining the Angle of Arrival

Journal of Applied Physics, 1948
A method is presented for determining the angle of arrival of the direct and reflected wave for line of sight cases. The method assumes one direct and one reflected wave. The phase difference equipment, as developed by the Electrical Engineering Research Laboratory, measures the difference in phase at 3.2-cm wave-length between two points separated ...

Angle of Arrival Measurements

2004
The angle of arrival (AOA) is the most valuable piece of information that can be obtained from an enemy radar because the radar cannot change its position drastically in a very short time frame (i.e., a few milliseconds). Unfortunately AOA information is also the most difficult information to obtain. It requires several antennas with receivers. The two

Comparison of two angle of arrival averaging strategies

2009 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2009
The accuracy of direction finding (DF) systems can often be improved by using techniques for the time averaging of information from multiple data records, particularly when the signal-to-noise ratio is low. In certain DF systems, the emitter angle of arrival (AOA) is computed from the phase angle of a complex-valued signal. For this type of DF systems,

Joint Source and Sensor Localization by Angles of Arrival

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2020
Joint source and sensor localization (JSSL) attempts to simultaneously locate the multiple sources and sensors by exploiting the measurements between them. The research of JSSL has been based on time of arrival (TOA) measurements that require synchronization of the sources and sensors.

Measurement of Angle-of-Arrival

1969
While a large number of different types of direction-finder for obtaining the bearings of radio signals have been developed, ranging from simple vertical loop antennas to very complicated systems such as the Wullenweber type in which a narrow beam is used to scan the incoming wave system, very few of them can be applied to the problem of measuring ...

Angle of Arrival Localization for Wireless Sensor Networks

2006 3rd Annual IEEE Communications Society on Sensor and Ad Hoc Communications and Networks, 2006
Awareness of the physical location for each node is required by many wireless sensor network applications. The discovery of the position can be realized utilizing range measurements including received signal strength, time of arrival, time difference of arrival and angle of arrival.

On the dimensionality of spatial fields with restricted angle of arrival

Proceedings. International Symposium on Information Theory, 2005. ISIT 2005., 2005
Wireless communication occurs through continuous fields, over regions of space. Although the communication channel may be modelled in terms of infinite dimensional vector spaces, it is paramount to develop finite dimensional approximations for this channel.

Measurement of the Angle of Arrival of Microwaves

Proceedings of the IRE, 1946
This paper describes a method of measuring the direction from which microwaves arrive at a given receiving site. Data which have been collected on two short optical paths using a wavelength of 3¼ centimeters are presented to illustrate the use of the method.
