Angles and Polar Coordinates In Real Normed Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We try to create a wise definition of 'angle spaces'. Based on an idea of Ivan Singer, we introduce a new concept of an angle in real Banach spaces, which generalizes the euclidean angle in Hilbert spaces. With this angle it is shown that in every two-dimensional subspace of a real Banach space we can describe elements uniquely by polar coordinates.

Numerical Studies of Influencing Factors on the Homogeneity of the Powder Mixture during the Powder Spreading Process of Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam/Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
AISI 304L stainless steel powder is mixed with silicon nitride (Si3N4) powder and processed by PBF‐LB/M, allowing partial retention of Si3N4. The numerical approach effectively predicts the Si3N4 powder homogeneity and N content distribution on the powder bed. Recent studies have focused on the alloying of nitrogen (N) in high‐alloy stainless steels by

Rational Angled Hyperbolic Polygons [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We prove that every rational angled hyperbolic triangle has transcendental side lengths and that every rational angled hyperbolic quadrilateral has at least one transcendental side length. Thus, there does not exist a rational angled hyperbolic triangle or quadrilateral with algebraic side lengths.

Urban recreational fisheries in the Australian coastal zone:The sustainability challenge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Recreational fishing is an important wildlife harvesting activity in urban coastal areas, and recreational harvest in these areas can frequently exceed the commercial harvest.

Bridging Nature and Technology: A Perspective on Role of Machine Learning in Bioinspired Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning (ML) is revolutionizing the development of bioinspired ceramics. This article investigates how ML can be used to design new ceramic materials with exceptional performance, inspired by the structures found in nature. The research highlights how ML can predict material properties, optimize designs, and create advanced models to unlock a ...

Non-recurrent parameter rays of the Mandelbrot set [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this paper, we prove that any parameter ray at a non-recurrent angle $\theta$ lands at a non-recurrent parameter $c$ with $\theta$ a characteristic angle of $f_c$; and conversely, every non-recurrent parameter $c$ is the landing point of one or two parameter rays at non-recurrent angles, and these angles are exactly the characteristic angles of $f_c$

Concepts of spawning targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This report discusses the concepts of spawning targets. Spawning target setting is based on the fact that the number of smolts produced by any given river is constrained by habitat availability.

Development of Ternary Magnesium Alloys for Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Optimizing Oxide Layer Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing of magnesium alloys by laser is difficult because the melting point of the oxide layer is much higher than the evaporation temperature of the metal underneath. Making the oxide layer thinner can solve this problem. Alloying magnesium with strontium makes the oxide layer thinner, especially at 0.5 wt%.
