RECREATIONAL ANGLING TOURNAMENTS: PARTICIPANTS' EXPENDITURES. ESRI Research Bulletin 2017/05 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tournaments are a common feature of recreational angling, with upwards of 300 competitive angling events per annum in Ireland. Prior research has indicated that angler expenditures in Ireland exceed €555 million per annum but little is known specifically

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Optimization of wood machining parameters in cnc routers: Taguchi orthogonal array based simulated angling algorithm

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2019
In the present study, two mathematical models were developed to optimize the surface roughness for machining condition of Cedar of Lebanon pine (Cedrus libani). Taguchi approach was applied to examine the effect of CNC processing variables.

Valuing trout angling benefits of water quality improvements while accounting for unobserved lake characteristics: An application to the Rotorua Lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Trout angling is one of the most popular water-based recreational activities in the Rotorua Lakes. Despite the high demand for trout angling and other recreational purposes, water quality in some of these lakes has been declining over the past decades ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

CANOEING AND ANGLING IN DRAWA RIVER DRAINAGE AS IMPORTANT ISSUES IN SPATIAL PLANNING: AN ECOSYSTEM SERVICES APPROACH

open access: yesEconomics and Environment, 2017
The analysis of ecosystem services in the Drawa River drainage with regard to canoeing and angling indicated that anglers found lake areas most attractive whereas canoeists preferred river  sections.

An Economic Assessment of the Costs and Benefits of Natura 2000 Sites in Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In accordance with the European Commission "Habitats Directive" (Directive 92/43/EEC) and the "Birds Directive" (Directive 79/409/EEC), Scotland must contribute to the development of a UK network of protected areas that represent the most important ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

A fisheries management plan for the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The River Tweed is, in rod-catch terms, the second most important river in Britain for Atlantic salmon, with an annual rod catch of ca.10,000 fish. This article gives an outline of the second edition of the Tweed Fisheries Management Plan, which is ...

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.
