Repeated Observations Suggesting Kleptoparasitism by a Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) on the Great Barrier Reef

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study documents the first detailed case of kleptoparasitism in cetaceans, with observations of a Common Bottlenose Dolphin repeatedly pursuing Bigeye Trevally to induce the fish to regurgitate their prey, which is then consumed by the dolphin.

Oyster reef habitat characteristics and nekton communities vary with restoration method in a large‐scale project

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Restoration in coastal ecosystems is revitalizing populations of foundation species that provide valuable habitat to support biodiversity and ecosystem services. The goals of oyster reef restoration include increasing oyster populations and oyster reef ecosystem services such as provision of habitat for commercially and ecologically valuable ...

Données sur la croissance de l'anguille (Anguilla anguilla L.) dans le cours moyen du Rhin, région alsacienne

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 1994
La capture régulière, pendant cinq années (1990-94), d'anguilles marquées à la tétracycline au stade civelle et déversées dans le Rhin en mars 1989, confirme la forte variabilité individuelle de leur croissance.

Fish Community Composition Revealed by eDNA Metabarcoding in Mangrove‐Associated Lagoons of Negombo and Puttalam, Sri Lanka

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
eDNA metabarcoding revealed distinct fish community composition between Negombo and Puttalam lagoons, with richness broadly comparable to conventional surveys. The approach detected diverse taxa, including cryptic taxa, demonstrating its value as a complementary tool for biodiversity monitoring in Sri Lanka's mangrove‐associated lagoons.

Unravelling β‐Diversity and the Role of Small Streams in Shaping Fish Communities Using a National‐Scale eDNA Database

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 3, September 2026.
The role of river size on fish communities remains underexplored in freshwater ecology. Small streams, despite accounting for 75% of stream length, are more vulnerable to human impacts and often lack legislative protection. Nevertheless, they can serve as refuges and rearing areas for fish, including rare or threatened species.

What Do New Zealanders Think About Freshwater Fish? Results From a National Survey

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 3, September 2026.
The 2025 Environmental Perceptions Survey provides unique insight into a nationally representative sample (n = 1024) of New Zealanders’ perceptions of freshwater fish. About 8% of the sample had fished in the past 12 months and 30% had fished ever, and fisher subsamples were more male, more Māori and younger than the New Zealand population.
