The order Anguilliformes is one of the orders within the superorder Teleostei, consisting mostly of marine fish with a snake-like body shape, reduced scales and reduced paired fins. The main characteristic of members of this order are the leptocephalus larvae, which significantly morphologically differ from the adult form.
