MODELING AND CONTROL DESIGN OF AN ANGUILLIFORM ROBOTIC FISH

International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing, 2012
In this paper, the modeling and control design of a biomimetic robotic fish is presented. The Anguilliform robotic fish consists of N links and N - 1 joints, and the driving forces are the torques applied to the joints. Considering kinematic constraints, Lagrangian formulation is used to obtain the dynamics of the fish model.

Anguilliform Swimming Performance of an Eel-Inspired Soft Robot

Soft Robotics, 2022
In this article, we propose a soft eel robot design using soft pneumatic actuators that mimic eel muscles. Four pairs of soft actuators are used to construct the eel robot body. Pulse signals with suitable shifting phases are utilized to control delivery of compressed air to the actuators in sequence to create a sinusoidal wave ...

A new species of Atractodenchelys (Synaphobranchidae, Anguilliformes) from Vietnam

Zootaxa, 2020
A new species of the synaphobranchid genus Atractodenchelys is described based on 31 specimens collected off Quy Nhon and Nha Trang, southern Vietnam. The new species can be distinguished from the only two congeners in the genus by having much fewer total vertebrae (155‒158, vs. 168‒172 in A. phrix and 186‒199 in A. robinsorum), a relatively long head (

BrdU replication bands in the anguilliform fishEchelus myrus

Chromosome Research, 1995
High-resolution replication banding patterns have been obtained in prometaphase and metaphase chromosomes of the anguilliform fish species Echelus myrus by treating kidney cell cultures with 5-bromodeoxyuridine during the mid-late synthesis phase. The results show the superiority of the in vitro technique in obtaining a higher number of bands which ...

Automated locomotion parameter tuning for an Anguilliform-inspired robot

2016 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2016
Effectiveness of the locomotion of an Anguilliform-inspired robot depends upon the selection of various controller parameters such as amplitude, frequency, offset and low level controller gains. Manual tuning of the aforementioned parameters can be cumbersome. Automated controller parameter tuning requires repetitive experimental tests with non-optimal

Swimming in needlefish (Belonidae): anguilliform locomotion with fins

Journal of Experimental Biology, 2002
SUMMARYThe Atlantic needlefish (Strongylura marina) is a unique anguilliform swimmer in that it possesses prominent fins, lives in coastal surface-waters, and can propel itself across the surface of the water to escape predators. In a laboratory flow tank, steadily swimming needlefish perform a speed-dependent suite of behaviors while maintaining at ...

Collision-free motion planning for an Anguilliform robotic fish

2012 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2012
In this paper 1, a motion library and associated control strategies for collision-free motion planning are presented for a biomimetic robotic fish. The Anguilliform robotic fish consists of N links and N − 1 joints. Three major gaits of Anguilliform fish—forward moving, backward moving and turning—are investigated.

Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Anguilliform Swimmers

2011
We present a computational framework for the modeling, simulation and evolutionary optimization of anguilliform swimmers. The hydrodynamics of anguilliform swimming is investigated by solving the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations of incompressible flow past a self-propelled body.

Glycosaminoglycan composition of anguilliform and elopiform leptocephali

Journal of Fish Biology, 1991
Whole‐body glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composition of leptocephalous larvae was studied in eight eel (Anguilliformes) species, representing five different families (Congridae, Moringuidae, Muraenidae, Nettastomatidae and Ophichthidae) and the bonefish (Elopiformes: Albulidae: Albula vulpes).
