Ball Motion Perturbation in an Angular-Contact Ball Bearing
A S L E Transactions, 1982Spectral analysis of changes in the angular velocity vector of a bearing ball can be used to follow changes in ball-lubricant-race coupling in starved operation. Simultaneous measurements of basic speed ratio confirm the changes up to and through a lubricant breakdown failure. Presented at the 36th Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 11–14,

Slip Measurement in an Angular Contact Ball Bearing
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1983An experimental method for ball-race slip measurement that includes a method for determining the geometry of an assembled bearing from easily and accurately measured parameters is presented herein. Slip measurements taken with four fluid lubricants are discussed in terms of quantity, structure, bulk properties, and degradation.

Motion of Unbalanced Balls in High-Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Journal of Tribology, 1990This paper reports on an experimental study of the three-dimensional ball motion of an unbalanced ball in a 50-mm bore angular contact ball bearing operating at high speeds under axial loads. One bearing ball, which was unbalanced by making a small hole in it, was magnetized and the motion of the ball was determined using Hall-elements. The bearing was

Precessional slip in an angular contact ball bearing
Wear, 1982Abstract A previously reported ball precessional motion in an angular contact bearing is analyzed. Explicit forms for ball-race slip are given, both with and without precession. Slip and entrainment velocity at ball-ball contacts in a retainerless bearing are also given, also with and without precession.

Angular-Contact Ball Bearing Optimization Study.
1995Abstract : Ongoing studies have indicated that advanced engines will be required to operate at higher temperatures and increased rotor speeds. The object of this project was to find the optimum internal geometry for a high speed, hybrid thrust bearing, which produces minimum heat generation.

Thermo-mechanical analysis of angular contact ball bearing
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2016The thermal-mechanical character, which is difficult to ensure because of the lack of a corresponding theory and tool, has a significant effect on the dynamics of bearings. It even leads to a sudden failure of bearings in a working situation. In this research, a thermal deformation model was established, based on the analysis of temperature effect on ...

Angular Contact Ball Bearings for a Rear Axle Differential
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003<div class="htmlview paragraph">In passenger car axle differentials, axially preloaded tapered roller bearings have been used exclusively since their rigidity and life are sufficient for this application. In real life applications, the bearing preload during transmission life is reduced due to wear in the contact between the roller and the rib ...

Ball-Ball Load Carrying Capacity in Retainerless Angular-Contact Bearings
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1982Load carrying capacity between the balls in a retainerless bearing, theoretically zero, is shown experimentally to be large enough to allow for full complement operation.

The effect of preload of angular contact ball bearings on durability of bearing system
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2014Angular contact ball bearings are commonly used in such situations when you need to reach high bearing stiffness. However, a significant stiffness increase can be achieved only through the introduction of preload to the angular contact bearings. The purpose of this paper is to present a method for assessing the effect of preload of the angular contact ...

The influence of the circulation of the balls in an unlubricated angular contact thrust ball bearing
Wear, 1969Abstract In the paper 1 by this author the effect of the circulation of the balls in an angular contact thrust ball bearing was thought to consist solely of the centrifugal force. However, there will also be a gyroscopic effect due to the fact that, in general, the axis of rotation of a ball in the bearing changes with time. In the present note this
