Global Animal Law and International Trade Law After EC-Seal Products: An Interactional Analysis

open access: yes, 2019
This thesis is a case study of the formation of new norms in international law. The norms are those that concern animal protection. The thesis argues that international trade law is playing a part in the development of international legal norms for ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Can Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Help Overcome Regulatory Gaps of Animal Law? Insights from Trophy Hunting

open access: yesAJIL Unbound, 2017
Cross-border trade, industry outsourcing, and increased animal migration are becoming pressing issues for numerous states and fundamentally challenge our conceptions of animal law as territorial.

Animals as Something More Than Mere Property: Interweaving Green Criminology and Law

open access: yesSocial Sciences, 2020
Our article argues that non-human animals deserve to be treated as something more than property to be abused, exploited, or expended. Such an examination lies at the heart of green criminology and law—an intersection of which we consider more thoroughly.

Global Animal Law Research: Strategies and Resources

open access: yes, 2022
Across the globe, legal protection of animal rights continues to be a significant problem, and the level of protection varies dramatically among countries. Yet, no treatise has compiled resources and strategies on how to research these critical topics at

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Animal Warfare Law and the Need for an Animal Law of Peace: A Comparative Reconstruction

open access: yesThe American Journal of Comparative Law, 2023
Abstract This Article puts forward a novel analogy between animal welfare law and international humanitarian law—two seemingly unrelated bodies of law that are both marked by the aporia of humanizing the inhumane. Through the comparative lens of the international laws of war and peace, this Article argues that existing animal welfare law

Animal Law : Human Duties or Animal Rights?

open access: yes, 2021
In my view, the moral case for giving animals legal protection is strong. This is so whether or not we think of animals as having moral rights, such as a right to be cared for, or at least a right not to be harmed, because even if animals do not have ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
