Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Wnt5a induces ROR1 to recruit cortactin to promote breast-cancer migration and metastasis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ROR1 is a conserved oncoembryonic surface protein expressed in breast cancer. Here we report that ROR1 associates with cortactin in primary breast-cancer cells or in MCF7 transfected to express ROR1.

Cluster-cluster aggregation with particle replication and chemotaxy: a simple model for the growth of animal cells in culture

open access: yes, 2010
Aggregation of animal cells in culture comprises a series of motility, collision and adhesion processes of basic relevance for tissue engineering, bioseparations, oncology research and \textit{in vitro} drug testing.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.

Challenges and opportunities for data integration to improve estimation of migratory connectivity

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Understanding migratory connectivity, or the linkage of populations between seasons, is critical for effective conservation and management of migratory wildlife.

In‐Depth Profiling Highlights the Effect of Efgartigimod on Peripheral Innate and Adaptive Immune Cells in Myasthenia Gravis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by antibody‐mediated complement activation. Efgartigimod, a neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) antagonist, is approved for treating generalized MG (gMG). However, its modulatory effects on upstream innate and adaptive immune cells remain largely unexplored.

Genotype But Not Body Shape Predicts River Migration Success in Atlantic Salmon

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Migratory species typically undertake demanding long‐distance journeys, across different habitat types during which they are exposed to multiple natural and anthropogenic stressors.

Developmental stage shapes the realized energy landscape for a flight specialist

open access: yeseLife
The heterogeneity of the physical environment determines the cost of transport for animals, shaping their energy landscape. Animals respond to this energy landscape by adjusting their distribution and movement to maximize gains and reduce costs.

Avian Song Complexity is Associated With High Field Metabolic Rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Question: Is the production of bird song costly? Analyses of oxygen consumption during singing provided conflicting results. Data studied: Data on 28 passerine species with quantitative information on song complexity and field metabolic rate, which ...
