3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Scale and structure of time-averaging (age mixing) in terrestrial gastropod assemblages from Quaternary eolian deposits of the eastern Canary Islands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Quantitative estimates of time-averaging (age mixing) in gastropod shell accumulations from Quaternary (the late Pleistocene and Holocene) eolian deposits of Canary Islands were obtained by direct dating of individual gastropods obtained from ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Bioplastics made from upcycled food waste. Prospects for their use in the field of design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In recent years, the negative effects on the environment of the intensive use of synthetic, oil-derived plastics to make products, even those with a limited required duration, have given renewed impetus to the search for biodegradable and/or compostable ...

Fractional Skyrmion Tubes in Chiral‐Interfaced 3D Magnetic Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In chiral 3D helical magnetic nanowires, the coupling between the geometric and magnetic chirality provides a way to create topological spin states like vortex tubes. Here, it is demonstrated how the breaking of this coupling in interfaced 3D nanowires of opposite chirality leads to even more complex topological spin states, such as fractional ...

Atomic Size Misfit for Electrocatalytic Small Molecule Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the application and mechanisms of atomic size misfit in catalysis for small molecule activation, focusing on how structural defects and electronic properties can effectively lower the energy barriers of chemical bonds in molecules like H2O, CO2, and N2.
