ABSTRACT Transitioning from pediatric to adult care is a high‐risk period for individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD). An initial observation at one academic medical center suggested a sex‐based disparity in clinic populations, prompting a national investigation.

ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

Cell size uniformity in healthy tissues suggests that control mechanisms might coordinate cell growth and division. We derived a method to assay whether cellular growth rates depend on cell size, by monitoring how variance in size changes as cells grow ...

ABSTRACT Instruction Tenapanor potentially affects fluid volume and blood pressure. This study explored its effects on these parameters in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods We conducted a single‐arm, prospective observational study that enrolled 10 patients on PD with hyperphosphatemia who were newly initiated on tenapanor.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Spray Dried Animal Plasma as an Alternative to Antibiotics in Weanling Pigs [PDF]
Piglet health at weaning is compromised due to several stress factors. Following the ban of antibiotic growth promoters new alternatives are required to control these problems. This paper reviews the evidence available for the use of spray dried animal

A Web-based Simulator for Sample Size and Power Estimation in Animal Carcinogenicity Studies
A Web-based statistical tool for sample size and power estimation in animal carcinogenicity studies is presented in this paper. It can be used to provide a design with sufficient power for detecting a dose-related trend in the occurrence of a tumor of ...

Postural responses to cute animal pictures: The effect of image size
Affective stimuli are known to induce not only physiological but also postural changes. However, previous studies have reported inconsistent results regarding forward leaning responses to pleasant stimuli, possibly due to confounding variables.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
