Acute toxicity of drugs in newborn animals
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1966The acute toxicities of 30 compounds were compared in 1- to 3-day-old and adult(150 gram) rats. The effect of maturation on acute toxicity was generally consistent within a pharmacologic class of compounds. Only 16 of the 30 compounds were particularly more toxic to the newborn rat. The central nervous system depressants were more toxic in the immature

Chemical sympathectomy in newborn animals
Neuropharmacology, 1971Abstract Treatment of newborn mice and rats with 6-hydroxydopamine caused the massive destruction of all sympathetic ganglia. Morphological and biochemical evidence show that the sympathectomy obtained with this method is complete and persists up to 6 months after treatment.

Myocardial function in the newborn animal
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1964The roles of hypoxia and hypercapnia in elevating pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance were evaluated in normal unanesthetized newborn lambs. Nineteen Iambs without ductus shunting were studied in room air 4 hours to 10 days after birth with blood gases, pH, pulmonary, systemic, and atrial pressures, and indicator dilution cardiac output ...

Chest compressions in newborn animal models: A review
Resuscitation, 2015Much of the knowledge about the optimal way to perform chest compressions (CC) in newborn infants is derived from animal studies. The objective of this review was to identify studies of CC in newborn term animal models and review the evidence. We also provide an overview of the different models.MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL, until September 29th 2014 ...

Diazepam metabolism and anticonvulsant activity in newborn animals
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1973Abstract Diazepam metabolism was studied in vivo and in vitro in newborn and adult rats and guinea-pigs. Both newborn rats and guinea-pigs are more sensitive to the antimetrazol action of diazepam than the adult animals. The difference in activity was about fifteen times for rats but only twice for guinea-pigs.

Acquired tolerance of foreign cells in newborn animals
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B - Biological Sciences, 1956Acquired tolerance of skin homografts may be brought about experimentally by the introduction of the antigenic stimulus, in the form of living homologous tissue cells, into the embryo before its immunological defence mechanism has become functionally mature (Billingham, Brent & Medawar 1953, 1956). In practice, this may be accomplished

Biotransformation and Pharmacokinetics of Salicylate in Newborn Animals
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1973SUMMARY Plasma half-lives and urinary metabolites were examined in pups, kids, pigs, and a foal after intravenous administration of sodium salicylate (44 mg./kg.). Each subject was studied at 1 day of age and periodically to 30 days. The plasma half-lives of salicylate decreased as a function of age.
