PASTEURELLA MULTOCIDA MENINGITIS IN NEWBORNS AFTER INCIDENTAL ANIMAL EXPOSURE
Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2009We present briefly 2 newborns with Pasteurella multocida meningitis following incidental household exposure to domestic pets and review 36 additional cases from the literature. Of 38 reported cases of P. multocida meningitis during infancy, 18 were less than or equal to 1 month of age.

Digoxin Dosage in Newborn Animals and Infants
Pediatrics, 1962Please do not think that, after our recent letter in Pediatrics (29:500, 1962), we wish to monopolize the column of Letters to the Editor. However, the paper by Levine and Blumenthal on "Digoxin Dosage in Premature Infants" (29:18, 1962) touched us so heartily that we must write of our experiences.

A digital readout vibrational activity monitor for newborn animals
Physiology & Behavior, 1977Abstract We describe a device to monitor activity in the preambulatory neonatal rat. It can be readily accommodated to larger animals as well. It consists of (1) an inexpensive mechanical-to-electrical transducer, (2) a pulse height analyzer, limiter, and one-shot multivibrator, and (3) a digital electronic counter with LED display.

Intestinal Absorption of Colostral Lymphoid Cells in Newborn Animals
2002Intestinal absorption of colostral lymphoid cells was studied in 23 piglets of four sows and 17 lambs of ewes. From the colostrum and blood of the dams the lymphoid cells were isolated with Ficoll-Paque and labelled with technetium (Na99mTcO4). In the 7th hour after birth, 10 ml volume of the cell suspensions (piglets: 10(7) cells, lambs: 5 x 10(7 ...

Arousal response to hypoxia in newborns: Insights from animal models
Biological Psychology, 2010In newborns, the inability to initiate an arousal response to hypoxia is associated with apnea of prematurity, sudden infant death syndrome, and rare genetic disorders of respiratory control. Despite intensive research, the mechanisms of this response are poorly understood.

THE CELLULAR BASIS OF IMMUNOLOGICAL TOLERANCE IN NEWBORN ANIMALS
Australian Journal of Experimental Biology and Medical Science, 1966SummaryNewborn rabbits responded with immunity when given bovine serum albumin plus macrophages obtained from adult rabbits. A deficiency in the macrophage activity of newborn animals is postulated to explain why these animals normally do not respond with immunity, but instead are rendered tolerant.
