Natural Antioxidants Beneficial Effects on Anion Exchange through Band 3 Protein in Human Erythrocytes

open access: yes, 2019
Band 3 protein (B3p) exchanging Cl− and HCO3− through erythrocyte membranes is responsible for acid balance, ion distribution and gas exchange, thus accounting for homeostasis of both erythrocytes and entire organisms.

Voltage-dependent anion channels: different isoforms for different functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) is the most abundant protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM) and mediates the flow of ions and metabolites between the cytoplasm and the mitochondrial network.

Band 3 protein—cholesterol interactions in erythrocyte membranes Possible role in anion transport and dependency on membrane phospholipid [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Band 3 protein of the human erythrocyte membrane, the anion transport protein, possesses a high affinity steroid binding site. In mixed phospholipid—cholesterol monolayers, the state of occupancy of this site is positively correlated with their ...

Mitochondria as the Hub of Apoptosis: A Comprehensive Insight From Mitochondria to Interactions With Other Organelles

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Mitochondria is the hub of apoptosis in various diseases. The disruption of mitochondrial structure (including membrane rupture, cristae remodeling, and mitochondrial membrane lipid redistribution), the imbalance of mitochondrial dynamics (including fusion and fission, autophagy), the release, disruption, and mutation of mitochondria DNA, as well as ...

Redox‐responsive dual‐drug nanomedicine integrating cisplatin and trypsin for synergistic reversal of tumor chemoresistance

open access: yesSmart Molecules, Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2026.
This study presents a novel glutathione‐activatable prodrug nanomedicine (cRGD‐PEG‐PGlu‐NP (ssTrypsin & CDDP)) that co‐encapsulates cisplatin and a masked protease to combat cisplatin resistance. The dual‐drug system selectively targets resistant tumor cells, enhancing the efficacy of cisplatin while minimizing systemic toxicity.

Tunable Fabrication of 2D‐Layered Magnesium Nanosilicates With Hemostatic Properties

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2026.
Tunable 2D magnesium nanosilicates form bioactive protein coronas, support cellular internalization, and promote hemostatic activity. These nanoclays enable shear‐thinning gel formation and reduce clotting time and blood loss, highlighting their potential for wound‐management applications. Tunable fabrication of inorganic two‐dimensional (2D) nanoclays

Negatively charged purification tags for selective anion-exchange recovery

open access: yes, 2004
A novel strategy for the highly selective purification of recombinant fusion proteins using negatively charged protein domains, which were constructed by protein design, is described. A triple alpha-helical domain of 58 amino acids was used as scaffold.
