Origin of reversible oxygen redox reactions in high energy density layered oxides

open access: yesCell Reports Physical Science, 2021
Summary: Oxygen redox reactions (ORRs) are considered a new strategy in reaching a high-energy density for rechargeable batteries. Here, we propose the concept “band coherency” for identifying the origin of reversible ORRs in alkali-excess compounds, i.e.

Blended Anion Exchange Membranes for Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesPolymers, 2021
In this study, blended anion exchange membranes were prepared using polyphenylene oxide containing quaternary ammonium groups and polyvinylidene fluoride. A polyvinylidene fluoride with high hydrophobicity was blended in to lower the vanadium ion permeability, which increased when the hydrophilicity increased.

Investigation on the Origin of Sluggish Anionic Redox Kinetics in Cation-Disordered Cathode

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Cation-disordered rock salt (DRX) cathodes exhibit high specific capacity due to the simultaneous use of anionic and cationic redox reactions. However, DRX systems face severe challenges that limit their practical applications; a most important challenge

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...
