Determination of Macroelements, Transition Elements, and Anionic Contents of Commercial Roasted Ground Coffee Available in Jordanian Markets

open access: yesBeverages, 2020
Coffee is one of the most common drinks worldwide. Due to the variability of elements composition, coffee is important for human health. The aim of this study is to assess the concentration of certain selected elements of commercial samples of roasted ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Using small molecules to facilitate exchange of bicarbonate and chloride anions across liposomal membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Bicarbonate is involved in a wide range of biological processes, which include respiration, regulation of intracellular pH and fertilization. In this study we use a combination of NMR spectroscopy and ion-selective electrode techniques to show that the ...

Aqueous extraction of anions from coal and fly ash followed by ion-chromatographic determination [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2016
Three different techniques were applied for the aqueous extraction of anions from coal and fly ash: rotary mixer- and ultrasonic-assisted extraction with different duration time, and microwave-assisted extraction at different temperatures.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Illuminating Anions in Biology with Genetically Encoded Fluorescent Biosensors [PDF]

open access: yes
Anions are critical to all life forms. Anions can be absorbed as nutrients or biosynthesized. Anions shape a spectrum of fundamental biological processes at the organismal, cellular, and subcellular scales.

The role of root-released organic acids and anions in phosphorus transformations in a sandy loam soil from Yantai, China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
One mechanism by which plants can mobilize organic and inorganic forms of phosphorus (P) in soils is by exudation of low-molecular-weight organic acids and anions. However, little is known about their effects on the transformation of P fractions in soils.
