An engineered anisotropic nanofilm with unidirectional wetting properties

Nature Materials, 2010
Anisotropic textured surfaces allow water striders to walk on water, butterflies to shed water from their wings and plants to trap insects and pollen. Capturing these natural features in biomimetic surfaces is an active area of research. Here, we report an engineered nanofilm, composed of an array of poly(p-xylylene) nanorods, which demonstrates ...

Anisotropic Wetting on Checkerboard-Patterned Surfaces

Langmuir, 2011
A series of surfaces with microscale checkerboard patterns consisting of continuous central lines and discontinuous lateral lines were fabricated. The surface wetting properties of these checkerboard patterns were found to be anisotropic. The central continuous lines were found to have a strong influence on the dynamic wetting properties and moving ...

Addressable Organic Structure by Anisotropic Wetting

Advanced Materials, 2013
The anisotropic wetting of functional organic molecules on a patterned surface and the development of a photolithography-compatible method to fabricate addressable organic structures is reported. For example, DtCDQA is grown on a SiO2 surface with a Au prepattern, achieving a high resolution cross-over organic structure.

Molecular Simulation Study of Anisotropic Wetting

Langmuir, 2010
We study anisotropic wetting in systems governed by Lennard-Jones interactions. Molecular simulation is used to obtain the macroscopic contact angle a fluid adopts on face-centered-, body-centered-, and simple-cubic lattices with the (100), (110), or (111) face in contact with the fluid. Several amorphous substrates are also examined.
