Nanoscopic channel lattices with controlled anisotropic wetting
Nature, 2000Engineered microscopic surface structures allow local control of physical surface properties such as adhesion, friction and wettability. These properties are related both to molecular interactions and the surface topology--for example, selective adsorption and molecular recognition capabilities require controlled anisotropy in the surface properties ...

Silicon membranes fabrication by wet anisotropic etching
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2002Abstract The anisotropic etching of silicon became a key technology for sensor fabrication due to the strong dependence of the etch rate on crystal orientation which offers the possibility of 3D structuring. The paper presents the investigation of anisotropic etching of silicon in organic (ethylenediamine pyrocatechol (EDP)) and inorganic (KOH, KOH ...

Anisotropic Wet Etching for Micro-Fabrication
IEEJ Transactions on Sensors and Micromachines, 2008Anisotropic wet etching process is now widely used in MEMS fabrication. The etching characteristics, mechanism of etch-pit formations on both of {100} and {111} Si surfaces, and micro pyramid formation on the etched {100} surface is described in this review paper.

Anisotropic Wetting Characteristics on Submicrometer-Scale Periodic Grooved Surface
Langmuir, 2007Submicrometer-scale periodic structures consisting of parallel grooves were prepared on azobenzene-containing multiarm star polymer films by laser interference. The wetting characteristics on the patterned surfaces were studied by contact angle measurements. Macroscopic distortion of water drops was found on such small-scale surface structures, and the

Elliptical Silicon Arrays with Anisotropic Optical and Wetting Properties
Langmuir, 2010We demonstrate a facile etching method to fabricate silicon elliptical pillar arrays (Si-EPAs) with unique anisotropic optical and wetting characters using polystyrene elliptical hemisphere arrays (EHAs) as mask. The EHAs were fabricated via a modified micromolding method.

Mechanoresponsive Tuning of Anisotropic Wetting on Hierarchically Structured Patterns
Langmuir, 2018Here, we propose a simple mechanoresponsive system on patterned soft surfaces to manipulate both anisotropy and orientation of liquid wetting. On the poly(dimethylsiloxane) embedding line patterned structures, additional topographies, such as wrinkles and cracks, can be provided by applying compressive and tensile stress, respectively.

Anisotropic Wetting on Microstrips Surface Fabricated by Femtosecond Laser
Langmuir, 2010In this paper, we present a new method to realize anisotropy by restricting a droplet on an unstructured Si hydrophobic domain between two superhydrophobic strips fabricated by femtosecond laser. The water contact angles and corresponding water baseline length were investigated.

Anisotropic permeability and tortuosity in deformed wet sediments
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1990Dewatering in many accretionary prisms is inferred to occur preferentially along discrete tectonic structures. However, these structures commonly consist of intense particle realignment in ductile shear zones rather than dilative fractures. Such realignment prompts a reduction in porosity within the zones, but there is, nevertheless, natural evidence ...

THIN SILICON STRUCTURES FABRICATION BY WET ANISOTROPIC ETCHING
International Journal of Computational Engineering Science, 2003Thin silicon diaphragms are often used to realize various MEMS components such as beams, hinges, springs, and actuators. Such structures required different silicon film thickness to meet the given objectives. This paper presents a process technique for the realisation of thin silicon structures with two different thicknesses simultaneously by single ...

Controllable anisotropic properties of wet-laid hydroentangled nonwovens
TAPPI Journal, 2019For nonwovens, fiber orientation distribution is an important structural characteristic that directly influences the anisotropic properties of the materials. Different Vslurry/Vbelt ratios were adopted to fabricate nonwovens during the wet-laid process.
