[10]annulene: Electrocyclization mechanisms

AbstractThe mechanism of 6‐π electrocyclization of all‐cis, mono‐trans, and double‐trans [10]annulene to yield 4a,8a‐dihydronaphthalene has been explored at various quantum‐chemical methods. The mono‐trans configuration cyclizes preferentially to trans‐4a,8a‐dihydronaphthalene, in agreement with the experimental results.

Subphthalocyanine−Dehydro[18]annulenes

A subphthalocyanine trimer built around a dehydro[18]annulene core was prepared. The synthesis was achieved through direct homocoupling of an ortho-diethynyl-functionalized subphthalocyanine, obtained by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of the corresponding diiodo-subphthalocyanine with an ethynyl derivative.

The [13]Annulene Cation Is a Stable Möbius Annulene Cation

The isomers of the [n]annulene cation series (n = 13, 17, and 21) were systematically scrutinized by DFT, SCS-MP2, and coupled-cluster methods. Only in the case of the [13]annulene cation the global minimum is clearly a Mobius structure. According to our theoretical predictions, the [13]annulene cation should also be kinetically stable.
