Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Developmental progression of lymphatic valve morphology and function
Introduction: The bileaflet valves found in collecting lymphatic vessels and some veins are essential for maintaining a unidirectional flow, which is important for lymphatic and venous function.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Rotational entropy for annulus endomorphisms
We study how some dynamical properties on a homeomorphism of the annulus affects its rotation set. We also introduce a topological invariant, designated rotational entropy, that basically measures the rotational complexity of an annulus mapping. © 1991

Gas-liquid flow regimes in horizontal annulus [PDF]
Gas-liquid flows in annulus channels are frequently encountered in the underbalanced drilling operation when the gasified drilling fluid is used. Accurate characterization of two-phase flow regimes in such conduits is critically important in order to ...

Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

DNA-modified Artificial Viral Capsids self-assembled from DNA-conjugated β-Annulus Peptide [PDF]
β-Annulus peptides from tomato bushy stunt virus conjugated with DNAs (dA20 and dT20) at the C-terminal were synthesized. The DNA-modified β-annulus peptides self-assembled into artificial viral capsids with sizes of 45-160 nm.

Protamine 2 deficiency results in Septin 12 abnormalities
There is a well-established link between abnormal sperm chromatin states and poor motility, however, how these two processes are interdependent is unknown.
