Chiral separation of chloroalkanes with the chromatographic column onboard Martian rovers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Computer image of the Rosalind Franklin Rover of ESA's ExoMars mission. ExoMars is scheduled to land on planet Mars in Oxia Planum in 2029. This area represents an interesting spot to look for biosignatures. Investigations of ExoMars include measurement on molecular chirality. We show that chiral chloroalkanes, that have been identified on Mars, can be

Structural and Ultrastructural Assessment of the Sperm Annulus in Men with Immotile Short-tail Sperm Defects Compared to Normozoospermic Controls: A Case–control Study

open access: yesJournal of Human Reproductive Sciences
Background: The sperm annulus is a fibrous ring structure formed by septin proteins. It connects the mid-piece and principal piece of the sperm flagellum in mammals and plays a crucial role in flagellar stability and motility Aim: This study aimed to ...

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Self-assembly of Ni-NTA-modified β-Annulus Peptides into Artificial Viral Capsids and Encapsulation of His-tagged Proteins [PDF]

open access: yes
β-Annulus peptide bearing Cys at the N-terminal from tomato bushy stunt virus was synthesised using a standard Fmoc-protected solid-phase method, and the petide was modified with Ni-NTA at the N-terminal.

Feature Extraction and Comparative Analysis of Firing Pin, Breech Face, and Annulus Impressions from Ballistic Cartridge Images

open access: yesForensic Sciences
Background/Objectives: Toolmark analysis on cartridge cases offers critical insights in forensic ballistics, as the impressions left on cartridge cases by firearm components—such as the firing pin, breech face, and annulus—carry distinctive patterns and ...

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Annulus tension in the tricuspid valve: The effects of annulus dilation and papilliary muscle movement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Tricuspid valve (TV) annular dilatation compromises TV coaptation and may lead to regurgitation. Annular mechanics involves interaction between the TV leaflets and right ventricle myocardium and plays a role in annular dilatation. Annulus tension (AT) is

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

The ubiquitin system in normal and infected germinal center B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The ubiquitin system plays a central role in germinal center (GC) B cells, influencing differentiation to long‐lived memory B cells. Oncogenic gammaherpesviruses gain access to memory B cells by establishing latency in GC B cells. Mapping ubiquitin mechanisms in normal and infected GC B cells will define specific molecular circuits in B cells germane ...
