First year growth in the lithodids Lithodes santolla and Paralomis granulosa reared at different temperatures [PDF]
The southern king crab, Lithodes santolla Molina, and stone crab, Paralomis granulosa Jacquinot, inhabit the cold-temperate waters of southernmost South America (southern Chile and Argentina), where stocks of both species are endangered by overfishing ...

Fine‐scale diversity of prey detected in humpback whale feces
We investigated the prey consumed by humpback whales in three heterogenous regions in southern British Columbia, Canada, using opportunistic faecal sampling, microscopy, and DNA metabarcoding of 14 faecal samples. Fish including Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii), hake (Merluccius productus), and eulachon (Thaleichthys pacificus) were the most common ...

Crustaceans as Key Prey: Insights Into the Dietary Partitioning of Four Carnivorous Fishes in the Nansha Islands, South China Sea. [PDF]
This study, through a combination of morphological analysis, molecular identification, and stable isotope analysis, confirmed that crustaceans are the primary food source for these fishes. Small carnivorous fishes reduce niche overlap by selectively feeding on different types of crustaceans—a strategy supported by the abundant crustacean resources in ...

Sexual dimorphism in Aegla marginata (Decapoda: Anomura) [PDF]
A study on sexual dimorphism in Aegla marginata was conducted using geometric morphometric methods. The carapace of 47 females and 75 males and the left and right cheliped propodus of 29 females and 40 males were analyzed. Eighteen landmarks were established in the carapace and 10 in the cheliped propodus.

Observations and possible function of the striking anterior coloration pattern of Galathea intermedia (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura) [PDF]
Galathea intermedia is common, but cryptic, on Clyde maerl deposits where it lives in small groups of mixed sex and age, sharing shelters (typically dead Dosinia shells) to avoid predation.
