The Larvæ of the Decapoda Macrura and Anomura of Plymouth [PDF]
The larvæ of the Decapod Macrura occur throughout the year in the tow-nettings taken in Plymouth Sound; while during the summer months they form an important and conspicuous feature of the coastal plankton. In only a few cases have their life-histories been fully worked out, owing probably to the difficulty of rearing the larvæ under artificial ...

Impact of mercury released from permafrost on food safety in Switzerland
ABSTRACT Climate change has caused the permafrost to thaw, releasing the previously sequestered mercury into the environment. Mercury has the ability to convert to methylmercury, a bioaccumulative neurotoxin. Exposure occurs in humans through the ingestion of contaminated food and it is associated with adverse health effects.

Occurrence of Lithodes Confundens (Decapoda: Anomura) in the Intertidal of the Southwestern Atlantic [PDF]
We provide the first biological data for the southern king crab Lithodes confundens, found intertidally on the Atlantic coast of southern South America (518219S‐548209S). Between October and December 1997 and in December 1999, specimens were found during the ebbtide in crevices of the wave abrasion platform.

We analyzed 190 specimens of the common European hermit crab species Pagurus bernhardus to look for the heterometry between the sexes regardless of the body size. We calculated three different indices and found all to be significantly different between males and females, indicating that males have bigger major and minor chelipeds than females, even if ...

Lipid, fatty acid and protein utilization during lecithotrophic larval development of Lithodes santolla (Molina) and Paralomis granulosa (Jacquinot) [PDF]
During the larval development of the subantarctic king crab, Lithodes santolla, and stone crab, Paralomis granulosa, we compared changes in the carbon, fatty acid and protein contents of larvae reared under constant conditions from hatching to ...

Linking regional variation of epibiotic bacterial diversity and trophic ecology in a new species of Kiwaidae (Decapoda, Anomura) from East Scotia Ridge (Antarctica) hydrothermal vents [PDF]
We analyzed the diversity of bacterial epibionts and trophic ecology of a new species of Kiwa yeti crab discovered at two hydrothermal vent fields (E2 and E9) on the East Scotia Ridge (ESR) in the Southern Ocean using a combination of 454 pyrosequencing,
