Variations in household microclimate affect outdoor-biting behaviour of malaria vectors [PDF]
Background: Mosquito behaviours including the degree to which they bite inside houses or outside is a crucial determinant of human exposure to malaria.

Biting or irritating insects are a threat to the health and welfare of grazing animals. This systematic review reveals that several shrubs and bushes growing in the alpine area have insecticidal, insect‐repellent and/or attractant properties. The alder Alnus glutinosa, juniper Juniperus communis, spruce Picea abies and walnut Juglans regia are ...

Genome-wide patterns of polymorphism in an inbred line of the African malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae. [PDF]
Anopheles gambiae is a major mosquito vector of malaria in Africa. Although increased use of insecticide-based vector control tools has decreased malaria transmission, elimination is likely to require novel genetic control strategies.

Leishmania infantum propagated in IDE8 tick cell line in vitro. L. infantum reduces tick cell viability and induces reactive oxygen species production. Lipidic profile of IDE8 tick cell line is altered during Leishmania infection. Abstract Leishmaniasis comprises a group of vector‐borne neglected tropical diseases caused by species of the obligatory ...

We simultaneously analysed insecticide resistance mutations in VGSC and AChE using NGS and hybridization probe capture in houseflies collected from livestock facilities for the first time. Resistance mutations in both VGSC and AChE were detected in most wild populations, suggesting widespread distribution of resistance genes.

Background High coverage of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) are the cornerstones of vector control strategy in Senegal where insecticide resistance by the target vectors species is a great of concern.

Zooprophylaxis as a control strategy for malaria caused by the vector Anopheles arabiensis (Diptera: Culicidae) : a systematic review [PDF]
Background: Zooprophylaxis is the use of wild or domestic animals, which are not the reservoir host of a given disease, to divert the blood-seeking malaria vectors from human hosts.

Insectary‐reared mosquitoes were simultaneously assessed for species identification, bloodmeal source analysis and Plasmodium detection, using a single multiplexed sequencing run on the MinION sequencing platform. The method was applied to 150 insectary‐reared mosquitoes, representing nine species blood‐fed with five vertebrate hosts and 40 samples for

Molecular bases of insect odorant receptor function: specificity and evolution
ABSTRACT Insect odorant receptors (ORs) are a class of chemoreceptors that insects use to detect volatile cues in their environment. In recent years, major advances in the field of structural biology have made it possible to obtain the first structures of insect ORs.
