Abstract Anostraca range up to approximately 15 cm maximum length (although typically only 1–3 cm on average). Their body includes a shieldless cephalon with prominent stalked compound eyes; large antennae modified as claspers in males; a 12-segment thorax with Hox gene expression and an array of leaf-like appendages; and a thin limbless

The anostraca of the republic of Belarus
Hydrobiologia, 1998A survey of temporary freshwaters in the Republic of Belarus revealed the presence of two anostracan species (Chirocephalus josephinae and Drepanosurus hankoi). The two species co-occur in a majority of pools. Their life cycle partly overlaps, with D. hankoi the first to disappear.

Californian Anostraca: Distribution, Habitat, and Status
Journal of Crustacean Biology, 1990ABSTRACT California has a diverse anostracan fauna of 17 species belonging to 6 genera. This is nearly 40% of all species currently described from North America. Six of these anostracans are endemic to California. This is the highest level of endemism among anostracans for any comparable geographic area in North America.

A contribution to the systematics of the Streptocephalidae (Branchiopoda: Anostraca)
Hydrobiologia, 1995While developing a data base for phylogenetic analysis of the New World streptocephalids we compared them with species from Africa, Europe, and India. In doing this, we found that the morphology of the peduncle of the distal antennal outgrowth and the biramous ovaries developed in seven North American species can contribute to the systematics of the ...
