The potential of freshwater Anostraca for technical applications
Hydrobiologia, 1997Freshwater Anostraca offer a potential for a variety of technical applications. These include production in aquaculture facilities or harvesting from natural reserves of cysts or biomass. However, economical realism limits the number of viable options to either subsidized, or to well-focussed activities aimed at end-products with a high added value.

The amplexial morphology of selected Anostraca
Hydrobiologia, 2002The amplexial morphology of representative species from all anostracan families is described. Males of the Polyartemiidae and Artemiidae amplex the female's brood pouch. Males of all other families amplex the female's body between the brood pouch and the last pair of legs: a region referred to herein as the `amplexial groove.' The amplexial groove in ...

Gynandromorphism in Anostraca: multiple mechanisms of origin?
Hydrobiologia, 1997Gynandromorphism is relatively rare in anostracans and is generally thought to arise from mitotic aberrations occurring during early embryogenesis that create somatic-cell mosaics. We have reared 35 gynandromorphic Branchinecta, most of them being B. lindahli.

Current status of the Anostraca of Italy
Hydrobiologia, 1999Fairy shrimp distribution in Italy is updated on the basis of recent records . Their status is evaluated according to IUCN Red List criteria in order to document the current situation and to rectify previous incorrect assessments. Most of the 16 species have at least one population in a protected area, so that they apparently face little risk.

On Branchinecta orientalis Sars (Anostraca) in the Himalayas
Hydrobiologia, 1997We report finding the Anostraca, Branchinecta orientalis Sars, 1901, in a temporary lake in the Nepalese Himalayas. The lake, referred to as a non-permanent water collection by Loffler, was sampled in the framework of a research project on lakes in remote areas (Ev-K2-CNR Project), aimed at studying the transport of pollutants on a global scale.

A contribution to the knowledge of the Anostraca fauna of Turkey
Crustaceana, 2005Our current knowledge on the Anostraca of Turkey is rather limited, due to a lack of both local specialists and field sampling campaigns. Based on the old data available, mainly published in Italian and German, as well as on the results of recent samplings, we have summarized the present situation in order to update the information available for this ...

Bile pigment in Chirocephalus diaphanus prevost (crustacea: anostraca)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1962Abstract 1. 1. Chirocephalus diaphanus is frequently greenish-blue in colour. This may be due both to carotenoprotein in solution in the blood and to granular deposits of blue pigment in various tissues. 2. 2. This blue pigment is identified as a bilatriene and is more abundant in females than in males.

A new species of Branchinecta (Crustacea: Anostraca) from Uruguay
Zootaxa, 2015Branchinecta uruguayensis, a new species of fairy shrimp, is described from a single seasonally astatic aquatic habitat in coastal Uruguay. This is the first record of an anostracan from the nation of Uruguay. Male B. uruguayensis n. sp. are separated from other Branchinecta species by the form of the second antennae. Branchinecta uruguayensis n.
