Phylogenetics and molecular clocks reveal the repeated evolution of ant-plants after the late Miocene in Africa and the early Miocene in Australasia and the Neotropics.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2015
Ant-plant symbioses involve over 110 ant species in five subfamilies that are facultative or obligate occupants of stem, leaf or root domatia formed by hundreds of ant-plant species. The phylogenetic distribution and geological ages of these associations,

Epigenetic Activation of CCDC183‐AS1 Promotes Osteoclastogenesis and Prostate Cancer Bone Metastasis Through the FUBP1/LIGHT Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CCDC183‐AS1 overexpression enhanced the ability of PCa cells to spread to the bone by inducing osteoclastogenesis. Mechanistically, CCDC183‐AS1 interacted with FUBP1 and enhanced its stability, which promoted the transcription of TNFSF14 (LIGHT). Copy number gain‐induced KDM5C epigenetically upregulated CCDC183‐AS1 expression by recruiting TET1 to the ...

On Oliver's p-group conjecture

open access: yes, 2008
Let S be a p-group for an odd prime p. Bob Oliver conjectures that a certain characteristic subgroup X(S) always contains the Thompson subgroup J(S). We obtain a reformulation of the conjecture as a statement about modular representations of p-groups ...

JA‐Mediated Regulation of Amino Acid Homeostasis Adjusts Metabolic Flux and Enhances Spider Mite Tolerance via the SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6s Module in Tomato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study elucidates a novel SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6A/SlAVT6B module that effectively channels metabolic flux from primary to secondary metabolism, impacting plant growth, development, and resistance. Two novel vacuolar amino acid exporters, SlAVT6A and SlAVT6B, fine‐tunes trichomes, terpenes, and gibberellins, bolstering spider mite resistance.

Evaluation of the possible role of ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) as mechanical vectors of nematodes and protists

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2008
Nematodes and protists can be transmitted to humans in many ways and little concern has been given to the mechanical transmission by ants. This study aimed at analysing how the eggs of Ascaris lumbricoides and cysts of Entamoeba coli could be ...

On the second Tate-Shafarevich group of a 1-motive

open access: yes, 2011
We prove finiteness results for Tate--Shafarevich groups in degree 2 associated with 1--motives, rely them to Leopoldt's conjecture, and present an example of a semiabelian variety with an infinite Tate--Shafarevich group in degree 2.

Ants and Aphides [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1872
AMONG other misstatements in Dr. Bree's “Fallacies of Darwinism,” so ably criticised by Mr. Wallace in NATURE of July 25, occurs the following:—“All the stories about aphides being treated as milch-cows are myths, the result of inaccurate observation” (p. 166).

Pyruvate Carboxylase in Macrophages Aggravates Atherosclerosis by Regulating Metabolism Reprogramming to Promote Inflammatory Responses Through the Hypoxia‐Inducible Factor‐1 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of macrophage pyruvate carboxylase (PC) in atherosclerosis (AS) demonstrating that PC upregulation in macrophages promotes metabolism reprogramming to enhance inflammatory responses via the HIF‐1 signaling pathway.

Electrical networks and Lie theory

open access: yes, 2016
We introduce a new class of "electrical" Lie groups. These Lie groups, or more precisely their nonnegative parts, act on the space of planar electrical networks via combinatorial operations previously studied by Curtis-Ingerman-Morrow.
