Anteater nose sign and reverse anteater nose sign: Are they specific for calcaneonavicular coalition?

Journal of Musculoskeletal Surgery and Research, 2023
The anteater nose sign has been described on imaging in the case of the calcaneonavicular coalition and is produced by a tubular elongation of the anterior calcaneal process that approaches or overlaps the navicular bone, resembling an anteater’s nose.

The “Anteater Nose”

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 1987
On the lateral foot or ankle film of patients at least 9 years old with calcaneonavicular bar (CNB), there is a tubular prolongation anteriorly of the superior calcaneus which fancifully resembles the nose of an anteater. This prolongation approaches or overlaps the midportion of the navicular.
