Diversity and Activity Patterns of Medium‐Sized and Large Terrestrial Mammals in Agroforests of a Peruvian Amazon Rainforest Region

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
We studied species richness and activity patterns of medium‐sized and large terrestrial mammals in agroforests located in the northern buffer zone of Tambopata National Reserve, Peru. Straightening Crooked Nose with Precise Bone Refining

From Bat to Worse: The Pivotal Role of Bats for Viral Zoonosis

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2025.
Thanks to a dampened inflammatory innate immune response, various Chiropteran (bat) species frequently carry ‐ without showing symptoms – diverse viruses that can cause severe diseases in humans. The reasons why bats are a pivotal virus reservoir for emerging viral diseases are discussed in this Lilliput contribution.

Surviving in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation: Richness and Defaunation of Mammals in Priority‐Protected Areas of the Brazilian Midwest

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 7, July 2025.
We found rich and compositionally different assemblages of medium and large‐sized mammals in protected areas on the southern edge of Amazon. However, both have high rates of mammal defaunation. We argue that anthropogenic threats in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation are eroding large ungulate populations, especially peccaries.
