Mutual Coupling Optimization of Compact Microstrip Array Antenna

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we perfect the mutual coupling of compact microstrip array antenna by designing a new defected ground structure. When the resonant frequency is 2.45GHz, array element spacing is 0.1 times of free space wavelength, we introduce new defected

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Mutual Coupling Effects for Radar Cross Section (RCS) of a Series-Fed Dipole Antenna Array

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2012
The estimation of RCS of a phased array depends on various parameters, namely, array geometry, operational frequency, feed network, mutual coupling between the antenna elements and so fourth.

Quantifying Subsurface Weak in‐Plane Magnetization of Mixed Phase BiFeO3 by Scanning Nitrogen Vacancy Magnetometry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We use scanning nitrogen vacancy magnetometry to directly image the weak in‐plane magnetic moments in mixed phase BiFeO3 at the nanoscale and quantify the local magnetic moments to be 18.8±2.0 μB/nm2 in the rhombohedral‐like phase and 1.5±0.6 μB/nm2 in the well‐known non‐magnetic tetragonal‐like phase.

Small Aperture Antenna Arrays for Direction of Arrival Estimation

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, we establish criteria for the design of small aperture antenna arrays for Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation. We define a small aperture antenna array as one consisting of a few elements with an average interelement spacing less than or

Bandwidth Enhancement of Antenna Arrays Utilizing Mutual Coupling between Antenna Elements

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2010
The mutual coupling effect between antenna elements on an array's bandwidth is investigated using scattering parameters instead of the mutual impedance. First, an approximate expression is derived for matched voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) bandwidth ...

Coupled Array of Diverse Elements for Wideband High Spherical Coverage

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2023
We propose a flexible cluster array concept utilizing diverse antenna elements and the mutual coupling among them to improve the spherical coverage. This innovative approach can not only enhance the impedance matching but also improve the beamforming ...

Powering Nanocrystal‐Based Heat Engines With Light‐Emitting Metasurfaces That Influence Their Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...

Directivity Enhancement of Movable Antenna Arrays With Mutual Coupling

open access: yesIEEE Wireless Communications Letters
In conventional antenna arrays, mutual coupling between antenna elements is often regarded as detrimental. However, under specific conditions, it can be harnessed to enhance the far-field directivity (i.e., beamforming gain). Theoretically, the directivity of an N-antenna superdirective array over the endfire direction can reach N^{2}, significantly ...
